I currently have a Vanguard Harbinger in my hanger and wanted to get the other variations of the ships so that it can fit multiple roles without costing me 2 extra ships. As I was looking into the BUK kits it seems that there are different quotes from CIG about what they are and what they do.

So I was hoping someone with more knowledge on the subject could explain it to me as I'm curious if I should look into buying the ones I am missing through the grey market or wait till they are put into the game.

Also if I would buy them should I be looking for LTI versions or does that matter anymore with the changes made to them?

Initially BUKs would convert one Vanguard variant to another Vanguard variant.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/engineering/14935-Q-A-Vanguard-Variants-Part-II

After the new ship matrix, BUKs actually don't exist anymore, they will ,be converted to combo packs.

The combo pack replaces the center room module, turret items and weapons from the base variant to the "BUK" variant.

So would the best option be to pick the Vanguard variant with the most or best hardpoints and get the remaining BUK's?

Also does that makes LTI irrelevant on the BUKs and it would just use the insurance from the base ship?

The Warden has 4x S2 laser cannon and 1x S4 ballistic gatling, 1 turret with 2x S2 ballistic repeater, 4x S4 missile rack.
The Harbinger has 4x S2 ballistic cannon and 1x S4 Ballistic cannon, 1 turret with 2x S2 rocket pods, 4x S4 missile rack.
The Sentinel has 4x S2 distortion repeater and 1x S4 Laser cannon, 1 turret with 2x S2 TBC weapon (distortion), 4x S4 missile rack.

The base loadout seems the same amount. The difference comes with the center room module.

The Warden has beds for long distance patrol, the Harbinger has a 3x S5 missile (torpedo) rack, the Sentinel has electronic warfare equipment and 2x M computer instead of 1x M and 1x S computer.

Also does that makes LTI irrelevant on the BUKs and it would just use the insurance from the base ship?
The base ship insurance only covers the hull and the default loadout of the ship. Different loadout wouldn't be covered by insurance. The applied BUK would cover for the BUK loadout and center module insurance.
LTI only would ensure that you never have to pay the base insurance fees. Extras fees to speed up the recovery always must be paid, with or without LTI.

After Noobifier did a video titled "What the BUK" CIG issued some clarifications. The difference between a BUK and a Combo pack, at last word is nomenclature.

Pick the one you like the color scheme of and get the other combo kits/BUKs.
Note at last sale there is a price difference depending on which combination you buy.

Note The Combo kits were not offered during the most recent anniversary sale. I got my Warden BUK to go with my Sentinel here: https://www.testsquadron.com/threads/ships-for-testies-long-term-pledge-plan-tutorial.9423/
