Im waiting to see some more laptops with the Ryzen 2200 APU.

Not needing a GPU and being able to run GTA V on medium settings is a fantastic accomplishment!
You know... you could try to assemble your own laptop in the name of test. If you did id buy one just because i can haha. @RiceMaiden could 3d print the case or i'm sure someone has a CNC router out there.(I'll have a wood one eventually but not till my house stuff is done still thinking about just going metal but who knows.)

I've had luck wiht MSI, Alienware and Asus ROG laptops, but you can't skimp. You need 32 Gb RAM, and an internal SSD. Just so, even the 1050 card in my 15 inch GL553V Asus ROG can run Star Citizen 3.1.3 @ about 40-45 FPS in that configuration - it is an expensive upgrade though, and I can't use that laptop for gaming now that I started work this week. It is my primary software development system.

But even In it's stock configuraiton, 16GB and 1Tb SATA HD with the 1050 chips, it ran Star Citizen OK. You need to turn the video quality way down, reduce the resolution and tweek the card settings, but it was able to run at 20-25 FPS that way.

how much are these external GPUs? cant be cheap i would imagine
You would be surprised: Gigabyte Aorus Gaming Box, for example:

1070 version (bundle, TB3 Plug and Play Enclosure + GPU) -- around 600 USD
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125990

1080 version (bundle, TB3 Plug and Play Enclosure + GPU) -- around 700 USD
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814932011
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1393736-REG/gigabyte_gv_n1080ixeb_8gd_geforce_gtx_1080_pcie.html

And keep in mind that this is still a relatively new type of a product; I expect eGPU enclosures to be even cheaper in the future /though prices already went down; originally the cost of the TB3 box itself (w/o GPU) was around 300-500 USD.

Woosh! So this has HDMI 2 out. How many external monitors could you add with this and can you put a different display on them than on the laptop itself? If you were gaming in a chair, with a HOTAS, and had the laptop on a table in front of you, could you put one view on the 17" laptop display and others on external monitor(s)?

And I am just curious about the deafening roar of the fans. Just how bad would it be to have them in front of you. Would you want to wear headphones and would that solve the issue?

I paid just over 600 for my 1080. The use of these for mining has really driven the price up beyond reason

Deafening roar of the fans? Theyre really not that bad, I only even remotely notice them if I'm like playing some new game with everything maxxed. With headphones I've never even noticed and mine are open backed. Looking at the back of mine, I see an HDMI, minidisplay port, and thunderbolt 3. Also the connector for the external graphics amplifier so I wonder if you could have 3 monitors hooked up. Even if spending 4k on the 2018 model was nothing to me, I'm completely happy with the 2017 model I have. Get yourself a nice samsung evo pro m.2 (it has 2 m.2 slots and I believe a nice raid controller) and if you think it's necessary find the latest intel wifi chip and install that as well and you have a damn nice rig. I love my desktop but It's not with me right now and it's really not a problem or inconvenience.

Reminds me of when I used to travel a lot with one of these.
https://www.notebookcheck.com/fileadmin/_migrated/pics/alienware-m9750.jpg

The on laptop keyboard was pretty much unusable after 20 mins of gaming so I ended up removing it from the laptop to give it more breathing room as well as place it over the hotel room AC units. Of course a laptop with a detached keyboard did make many a TSA agent nervous.
Is that a VGA port? A CD DRIVE? AN S-VIDEO CONNECTIONNFSNFD?!?!?!? What a monster. My eyes are bleeding and my chest hurts.
