So I have a Connie, thinking about CCUing it to a Mercury when it next goes on sale. So if you have one, what is your reason for having it over the other. here are the way it plays out as far as I see them.

Connie = Mercury
Cargo
Radar
Fuel intakes and tanks
Quantum Drive
Jump Module
Power
Coolers
Shield Generators
Turret firepower

Connie > Mercury
Size/Mass
Crew
Weapons
Missiles
Able to fit a mid-sized land vehicle
P-52

Connie < Mercury
Speed
Quantum Fuel Tanks
Computers
sexy factor

So anything I am missing. the connie right now in my fleet is my jack of all trades ship. I have a Redeemer and Freelancer MIS for the more combat side of things on a similar scale. So I am looking for this to be a better do anything ship, So what are your recommendations and why? would love any thoughts.

No you've pretty much listed the pro's and cons of both ships. It really does make picking which one to use difficult. For me the ability to carry a land vehicle was what has so far kept me with the Andromeda but I have to say I am eyeing that sexy Mercury.

I had thought about going with a 600i explorer which would have overlapped enough of the Andromeda to justify in changing to a Mercury but the 600i was to large and thus it was to close to the Carrack and the Hercules is just to big as well for that nice mid size ship spec.

The other thing about the Mercury is its not much of an improvement over the Herald in its primary role as Data Runner.

In the end it really comes down to if the ability to carry around a land vehicle is important or if the look of the Mercury is.

no no.......

What he is doing is comparing apples to oranges, both ships serve different purposes.
I am sick of hearing "apples and oranges" and "you can't compare things that are different" well you just want to compare things that are the same? the reason we compare things is that they are different. that is the whole point! and I would argue both can be good multi-purpose ships but is one a better multi-purpose ship? apples are oranges are bot good fruits, but one is better at preventing scurvy.

Which is the better industry ship, Orion or Reclaimer? They are different but both do industry things.

Get the drake corsair. Seriously as the Mercury is still on paper it probably looks better. Connie has much better offense how important this is would be to me would be whether I had a connie or mercury.

I like the mercury over the connie because of the data running element and the design aesthetics, that appeals to me, (I had CCU'd my herald to a merc) but the connie seems tougher if you have the manpower to crew it. Try and decide whether you can see yourself waking up next to one either morning, or can afford waking up between them

I like oranges, but you get your finger tips and underside of fingernails sticky and orange from peeling them. Apples are good, but not as good as oranges unless it's a really great apple, but you don't have to peel them. Oranges are easier to eat after peeled, apples you have to just bite them or cut them and you'll get some juice around your mouth if you don't cut them.

I think the Mercury wins at almost everything, especially including SEXY, but the one thing it does not win at is very important. The Connie has MUCH bigger guns, and if you ever expect to use them rather than run, should choose the Connie.

People do tend to ignore the differences in weapons size, and the differences between S2 and S4 guns are enormous. It's not just that the Connie does much more damage. At the ranges where you would want to fight with a bird that cannot rotate fast enough to dogfight---something about 3-4km--the Connie can reach and the Mercury cannot. That means in a conflict, the Connie has options the Mercury doesn't, and that particular option--fighting at distance--is really the biggest advanatge one could have with a larger ship over a smaller one. This is a huge big deal, IMHO.

If you expect to be in a fight, choose the Connie. No, it's not sexy, but it's safer. OTOH, if you have no trouble jumping away at the first sign of conflict, and you think you might use those computers, choose the Mercury. Just don't plan for it to defend itself, 'cause that ain't gonna happen. The Mercury guns are just for show. Try to use them and you'll get your ass kicked by almost any other ship.
