I've read that this ship is flight ready. It shows up on my list, but I cannot spawn it. The error message was that it's too big. How do I get this thing out to fly it?

I don't believe any of the rest stops can spawn it
Only these two locations at the moment allow it to be spawned.
You can spawn it in Arena Commander Single player Free flight to if you want to check it out and get acquainted with it before taking it out in PU.

This thing is just massive. Too big to even enjoy it. Gives me a headache just going through all the rooms.
It gets really lonely flying it and I wonder if I'd ever use it in game...

This is one of the reasons why I went for the Endeavor. All the benefits of a huge Capital ship with the bonus that when I need to go do some solo play I can leave it's chunky ass in orbit and go do my thing in the explorer cab.
The Starfarer is the Loaner ship for the Endo, I used to think it was almost too big and the labyrinth interior doesn't help. I've grown used to it, though, and can generally make it from the enterence ramp to the pilots seat in less than 20 seconds if I don't get stuck on that damned ladder. Any place I need access to I have learned from the ramp or the pilots seat and now nothing is that far away. Any other room is pointless until the game forces a need for it. At the moment I never go on the third level as thats only for living quarters and there is no use for that stuff yet. As the 890j is 80% living space I can see your predicament.
Get the craft that cater to your style, good to hear the Pheonix is right up your street. Did you get the 890j or have you been able to fly it before you buy it?

Yes I had the 890 since last year, it is part of my game package and I'm kinda stuck with it. Can't upgrade it at all. Oh well, maybe it will serve some purpose later on.
I'm sure Montoya will have some diplomatic missions your ship will be able to excel at. At the moment it's also a fairly capable ship/ground vehicle carrier if you ever have the need for that.
Perhaps pop into the Dischord when it's busy and drum up a party to populate your ship with? See how it feels with a bunch of people on board :)

No problem. As you have an 890j I assume you are concierge too so if eventually the 890j really isn't your style I'd recommend contacting Game Services and asking if something can be arranges to break it down into a couple of smaller craft more suitable to you. It's a reward for your pledge, not an albatross around your neck
That's about my conclusion to, it's a amazing ship but it sure need a crew or passengers to not feel like a ghost ship ha ha....
Indeed Phoenix in that sense is more suited for single player or a small party.
But I hope some day we can be a crew on it and it make sense to fly it...
