I'd rather just have it built into the armor. But I wonder what sort of impact it would have on the game.Useless. Need handheld ones.
Stack them inside the Cat. Then put a bunch of players behind them with railguns. Boom. There's my broadside cannons! Not sure about the handheld shield but deployable shields are a thing.
Dare to dream my friend. I'm really interested to see what they come up with.I’m hoping for a small attack profile, stealth Corvette. Lots of boom stuff. Maybe skip the hangar. Like a gunship but with better armor and shields and able to carry 16 marines, some sort of boarding collar, and hell; throw in the Mantis style quantum disrupter. Shuttered bridge like the Carrack and the
Holoviewer.
I'd love something with a rail gun. 60-80 metres maybe.I was hoping for something like the above when the Polaris came out, and honestly I think the Torp solution is a really great one of they do sufficient damage. I think at the least they need a Corvette with Cap class shields. It's silly a luxury yacht has better shields than a corvette.

Well shit. These are very valid, very thought out points. Good on you man. When you spell it out like this, it makes sense that we can't have all the things in one ship.My concern with this is that it creates a linear progression as it nulls any of the smaller ships. While the argument can be made that the larger ships will require crew but we know that the crew functionality will be able to be done by AI even if not as well as a player it will still allow single players to fly this ship. And so the question becomes fly around in this ship and be equal with others or fly around in all the other fighters and be dominated by this ship.
While I understand the attraction to such a ship the issue is it makes any sort of fleet battle liner and the outcome based upon the number of ships fielded and not the tactics used. Not a huge issue in PVE but it really makes for a boring PVP experience. As you either have more ships then the opposing force and thus win or you don't and thus you disengage if possible.
I am ok with the luxury yacht having better shields then the hammerhead due to it not having an impact in fleet combat. Its purpose is mostly role-playing as well as a possible PVP target. Both give game play opertunities.
Are you suggesting to be "fair", all ships regardless of cost, crew requirement etc., need to in some sense be equal? Pardon me if I choke and wonder if this is some leftist madness run amuck. My concern with this is that it creates a linear progression as it nulls any of the smaller ships. . . .so the question becomes fly around in this ship and be equal with others or fly around in all the other fighters and be dominated by this ship.

"I am so opporessed! I am a tall person locked in the body of a guy only 5'11"! I want compensation!"
ConcurNot suggesting that ships be fair. I am suggesting that ships have pros and cons and not a linear progression. I am saying that bomber fleets should dominate large and capital ships while being fearful of fighters and fighters not really have any sort of impact on large capital ships should be useful in PVP against other fighters while protecting their own capital ships from bombers.
So no this is not about being fair, its about gameplay dynamics that creates opportunities for a variety of tactics and play styles by making sure there are counters. Otherwise, the player population will all just pick the best overall ship and that leads to a rather bland gaming experience.
Bringing this comment back home where it belongs.Okay so, to be clear, historically the vessel used most by pirates and privateers is the Corvette, or in the Mediterranean called the Corsair. It is generally considered to be the smallest Capital ship and often not even that. They are the fastest of all true cap ships and are used to suppress all smaller craft, and to chase down, board and take larger craft. What I have described as best I can fits that very narrow niche. Corvettes are easiest killed by larger cap ships which they are not fit to combat, or by swarms of fighters, just like larger cap ships.
For comparison, note the Idris M has a spinal mount weapon, and the Void Bomber has three. The current only Corvette has none. Like Owls, I'd like to see something less dependent upon Torps, like a rail gun fitted fast attack vessel or Corvette, but I am not sure this would be an improvement over the Polaris. The Torp solution really has great merit to it. Any ship that needs to point its railgun, will be in range of similar weapons, whereas S10 Torps will presumably not need to be in range of spinal mounts to be effective, so long as you have local spotting.
i'd like some sort of sloop equivalentBringing this comment back home where it belongs.
Yeah, this makes more sense. I like the way you've described the vessel here. Not an OP has everything ship, but a fast attack craft, cap style. I like it. This is sorta what I have in mind too. Smaller than the Polaris, bigger than a Connie, and able to run blockades or chase down prey.
Wait, they've told us what ships we'll be seeing? How out of touch am I? There must be at least one surprise / unknown ship.Unfortunately, we're still scheduled to see the Anvil Pisces--the scout ship for the Carrack--so could be that's all we're in for, which makes sense since the Carrack is due soon.
Yeah man, this is the size I want too. 60-80mi'd like some sort of sloop equivalent
that is to say, smaller than a corvette, but bigger than, say, a cutlass
sort of like a tali but not a bomber
EDIT: and not a connie either :p
Has there been any word yet as to what our new ships will be?With capturing live bounties in the near future, I was kind of hoping for something in competition for the Blue. Or stasis pods mechanic.
Ive seen only the Pisces and the Argo Mole. I'm willing to bet they will cover anything else in the final hour.Has there been any word yet as to what our new ships will be?
Fuck. Gotta wait until 2300 here, haha.Ive seen only the Pisces and the Argo Mole. I'm willing to bet they will cover anything else in the final hour.
