Here is a free version of the same article if you don't have a subscription to the Washington Post.

[EDIT] It's an interesting development if China knowingly destroyed documents, but you have to keep in mind this took them by surprise too. At this point, it is what it is, and nobody can change that. We need to move forward.

Wait, I'll quote from the link I posted...TL;DR Trump did not take this seriously at the beginning, now that it has blown up out of control, he is looking for somebody to pin the blame on before the next election.:
For several weeks, as The Washington Post’s Paul Farhi and Sarah Ellison reported, President Trump’s allies on Fox News, with the exception of Carlson, were inclined to take the same stance that the president himself promoted: the novel coronavirus, which had sickened and killed thousands of people worldwide, was no worse a threat than the seasonal flu.

Now, having changed their tune on the seriousness of the crisis, they appear to be working on narratives that explain away the Trump administration’s widely acknowledged inadequacies in addressing it.

Infighting, missteps and a son-in-law hungry for results: Inside the Trump administration’s troubled coronavirus response
Trump appears to be engaged in the same effort. He too had minimized the threat until just this week, at which point he stopped referring to the novel virus by its scientific name and instead switched to calling it the “Chinese virus.” Along with “Wuhan virus,” the label has been used by conservatives amid the outbreak, sparking accusations of racism from Chinese officials and many Asian Americans. Trump told reporters Tuesday that he started using “Chinese virus” in response to China “putting out information which was false that our military gave [the virus] to them.”

No. Fuck the CCP. They have threatened to cut off our supply of medicine. They are now trying to blame this on the US. They have given us false information, kicked out our journalists and retaliated against whistleblowers who risked their lives to go against the part to tell the world. "now is not the time for this" . Id agree but fuck the CCP. We cannot just sit here and take their bullshit. Now is not the time for kindness towards that government. Now is not the time to give them any credit for ANYTHING. I asked to keep this non political because it makes me absolutely livid. ABSOLUTELY fucking livid. Had they told anyone about this when they first found out instead of trying to save face we would almost certainly not be in this position. Im sorry if you feel otherwise, but I wont sit here and give them one ounce of sympathy. Theyre stealing our tech, theyre threatening to sink aircraft carriers, theyre bribing our professors and stealing our research and our corporations are sucking their dick to get into their markets. Fuck the CCP.

China also silenced the original whistleblower, but in hindsight they now see that was wrong.. duh.

Chinese investigators have determined that Wuhan law-enforcement officials' admonishing of Li Wenliang, the doctor who blew the whistle on the coronavirus outbreak, was "improper," state media reported on Thursday.

My point as above is that at times like these, people often want to express anger and frustration, which is normal, but there is nothing to be gained from slamming the CCP here. We have to focus our energies on things closer to home.

"The WHO chief made the remarks after signing an agreement with Chen Xu, China's permanent representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, on China's donation of US$20 million to the WHO for cooperation in dealing with the novel coronavirus epidemic."

Why people do not trust the UN, WHO, World Bank, etc.

Yeah, there is no excuse for Trump.

Its not as if this came out of nowhere.

South Korea was already 3 weeks deep into full quarantine and doing 10,000 tests per day when the first death happened in Washington State.

I made my video when that news hit, and I said we are about to see a huge move in cases.

Thats just me, some random guy on youtube. You can't tell me that I had better and more accurate information than this administration.

Great graph from reddit...I don't think we have anybody to blame but...
View attachment 15223

But the ignorance of those who cannot see anything but hatred for the president and not see the big picture. I hated bush but i rallied behind him during a crisis. Trump closed the borders and we were tracking every person we possibly could initially. It's his job to keep everyone calm and not let everyone panic. No country in the world is able to handle this but everyone expects absolute perfect scenarios and cannot see this situation rationally. If you cannot see how this is chinas fault and are relying on reddit to think for you then i dont know what to tell you. Thanks for bringing this up, its real helpful.

So my partner is freaking out. The cases of Covid19 doubled yesterday from the day before at her hospital. Her supervisor broke down in tears from the stress. I'm glad she's in an administrative role at the moment but she may very well get tossed back to the trenches if it gets really bad and her frontline colleagues start falling sick themselves.

The other day, my Old Man asked for help on his application for a firearms license and to buy a gun. He hasn't fired a gun since his Army days and him asking that scared the shit out of me. He cites the attacks on people of Asian descent and increasing xenophobia as his reason. Both my parents are retirees and their fear for personal safety is what scares me more than anything else.

I'm not going to get involved in any discussions on who's to blame and petty national politics. I'm just gonna lose my shit and get pulled down to the mud as demonstrated earlier. Blaming entire nations and regions is a slippery slope to blaming entire peoples. Instead I'm going to see what I can do in my community. There are a lot of older folks who are in need of assistance like shopping and other errands. I'll also see what I can do at the hospital (even buying the nurses coffee and donuts). Newly laid off, I've also been cooking more. I think I'll do a nice split pea and ham soup tonight for my partner and I.

Be good to each other.

Washington State building emergency hospitals.

They need 3000 more beds.

NY is going to need more than the hospital ship in five days.

Honest question, were they not expecting this? We have the numbers from places like Italy!

I agree.

My wife is not Chinese, but honestly, white people can't tell the difference. During SARS there was a shit ton of racism and we are going to see the same bullshit again now.

Emotions are high on my end. Ive been watching things coming out of china where body bags were in the hallways of hospitals, nurses and doctors having full on emotional meltdowns, looking at the bruises and cuts on their face because they cant take their PPE off. Ive seen people being locked in their houses, taking videos in their house with their dead family and no mortuary to come pick them up. Kids left alone because their family was forcibly quarintined. I feel so damn helpless seeing whats coming not being able to go to the hospital and help. My family isnt taking this seriously at all. So i apologize for going off, it all really is petty, i shouldnt even be thinking about it. I want to yell at people, i want to focus this frustration SOMEWHERE but ive been keeping my cool as best I can. @Aramusha I'm sorry you and your partner are already feeling this. I may be an asshole but im a sensitive asshole. I want to help, i dont want to see the suffering. I want unity, but my emotions are going to get the best of me until i brush it off and clear my head.

Possibilities for disaster are limitless. Knowing viruses have been coming at us constantly from China/Asia for the past 20 years, I agree we "could" have had more beds. Asteroid, tsunami, earth quake, and the list goes not.

They were but the resources of our hospitals are already stretched thin even on the best of days. They've been stockpiling supplies but theres only so much they can do. There are only so many ventilators to go around. Even masks and gloves will run low from all the hoarding and theft. The reason why the healthcare authorities have been screaming at people to stay home is that you can be an asymptomatic carrier. You can spread the virus to potentially hundreds of people while feeling fine. That's what makes the virus so hard to clamp down. People need to do their part and help our heath care workers. That people are still so cavalier about the situation is in my opinion, criminally irresponsible.

Our heath care workers are trained for this but reality is always far worse. Nobody wants to go through a wartime Triage situation. I expect a lot of doctors and nurses will require a lot of psychiatric support when all this is done.

This is an emotional subject, for years just 1% of our population have been fighting wars keeping the battles off our shores - the dead were typically not your neighbor or parents.

Today we have another battle that affects 100% of the population and now people are reexamining their mortality, because it hits home, and it hits fast.

This type of an event, like an earth quake, is "when" not "if" it hits. Humans do not have the answer to everything.
