I still don't understand CIG's clinically insane obsession with manned turrets.
Because pew pew ⁉

It is always funny to see that combat space sims always go back to this dogfight style game, when we live at the age of missiles fired dozens if not hundred kilometers away.

Lasers with range of 1km? Mmmppffff bwaaaahahahahahaaaa 🤣
Not straight continuous line lasers moving the speed of a bullet? Pew pew zaaaaap zaaaappp 🤪

It is just a reflection of what people have in mind when they think space combat in the pop culture. A mix of WW2 flying circus action and the Scifi of the 70'-80's.

But i like it anyway 😁

Yea, wel, even today there are a lot of weapon mounted on airgraft and ship that, despite all the automation, are man-manned:
AC-130 Spectre has remote controlled weapon
tanks have manned turret
most of the big elicopters have side mounted weapon that have no-automation at all
Humvee and similar land veicles have top-manned turret.

I know that 930 yeas in the future those feel like should all been automated and/or remote controlled, but there will be the fun at that point?

They're drawing from the bombers of WWII. After that there were no turrets because they proved so ineffective. Same decision George Lukas made for the Millenium Falcon. The benefit of manned over remote is manned don't go down when the computer goes down, but the target acquisition, (illumination) and target lock both go down which will make manual gunning hairy. That's a skill players should work on, worth the big bucks on an HH or Carrack crew.

I don't mind manned or remote turrets, didn't they also say they were going to add a component or something that would enable them to be slaved to the pilot as well? Is that just a temp thing or perm? I think the problem is you have these ships with manned turrets and now these ships become player or A.I. dependant and player will always trump A.I. but the problem is everyone and their mom is buying these ships not knowing how their going to operate a ship that requires a dozen or more people to actually operate them lol.

Well yes. I suspect there are going to be a lot of disappointed people when they realise that even a medium size ship will benefit from having a crew of 3 to 4 people. I can see even the Vanguards benefiting from having a gunner and engineer in addition to the pilot. As soon as components can be removed/repaired/replaced there will be an entirely new meta game inside combat ships.

A few years ago I was really interested in the redeemer, you used to be able to call it in the hanger, I dont know if you still can as it sits in my buy backs, (if anyone wants it, 6mo insurance) but as more ships get released I find better looking ships that I like and I find myself not really liking it anymore
