OK guys its come to our attention (The mumble crew for want of a better term) that there is a recent interest in sub divisions for Test, id just like to make a few things clear about this and get general feedback on how the community feels about subdivisions.

1: the first person to suggest a subdivision is NOT going to be the leader of said sub division!

2: Players are not be restricted to one subdivision just because one mines asteroids for example due to recent orion release does not mean they do not enjoy to do other stuff such as boarding actions also.

3: Subdivisions will work together to promote synergy between the divisions

4: a sub division is more than 1 leader and a bunch of followers,

5: Subdivisions must not isolate them selfs from the rest of the community

Totally agree. I'm writing up a draft for a space trucking wing, but my idea is that it would allow for ease or organization if people need help, or if we're trying to put together big convoys. I don't actually see it needing much in the way or leadership, more just a resource for like-minded folk.

Bingo if leadership is required for a Subdivision it will rise naturally the greatest source of leaders is when one is needed

I actually agree with this. Sub divisions should be able to work side by side and work together to accomplish not only their divisions main task but also large tasks that require the work of multiple types of divisions. Especially with how immersive things are going to be in SC, one cannot merely be one thing or another. Take the mining mechanic for example...

To be an efficient mining division one needs the following;

1: An Explorer is needed to find and transmit viable locations of sufficient ore deposits for the mining group to set up an operation.

2: Due to the lack of offensive capabilities of an Orion, a fleet of Combatants/Fighters are needed for protection against any hostiles during the operation.

3: Of course one will need a group of dedicated Miners/Industrialists are needed to run the op itself. This involves the manning of stations on the Orion(s).

4: Once the op is underway and/or after the op finishes we will need Haulers to transport the refined materials to various trade hubs in order for the operation to make the money from said OP.

This is very skeleton but the point is that when one is considering doing something they must understand that many others are needed to make the well oiled machine work. Without one of these "parts" being played the machine can break down and cause major losses and heartaches.

Long story short, great thinking @Ranger BearBlood !

P.S. Proud owner of an Orion myself and looking forward to work with people/gather a crew to destroys some Asteroids!!

Couldnt have put it better myself mate

I know alot of people may think that the above senerio may be a boring posting but i dont think that would be true as well i can imagine that to a pirate a fleet of these things would look like a absolute payday therefore boring posting it most likely will not be,

Good to see another Orion pilot i gave in and picked one up also i mean look at the thing its so awsome looking

I'm glad you don't mind my long winded discussions, I take my industry seriously and thus detail goes into my discussing it. Grats on the Orion Ranger, I felt the same way when I first saw that picture. It blew my mind that the mining ship came out looking so incredible!

Yes most definitely. It won't go down too easy, but honestly I feel it would be best to go out in a fleet of some kind for that added protection of course. Also, as a previous EvE industrial I just have to say...
This...

This is exactly what I want from SC. Imagine all the scenarios that can go into this.

Another routine mining op. Done 100s of these but Montoya keeps saying we need more to build a planet sized statue of himself. A hornet tracker attached to the op suddenly reports new sigs in the sector moving torwards the test mining operation. On investigation its the hostile fancy pants fleet coming to take out resources. Test is currently outnumbered and is breaking down the mining op. The slow Orion's start heading out but are quickly caught by the hostile fleet. The orions and transports engage with their turrets while the escorts provide cover. Overall the test fleet retreats mostly unscathed. I general call goes out and a massive test fleet comes together to rightfully reclaim what is tests's.

Tl;dr This game is fucking awesome.

Guys, here's an edited (for brevity) snippet from my post on Infinity Squad:

To address your concerns, TEST is by nature a very open organization; we don't expect everything to be wrapped up neatly and perfectly within the cloak of OPSEC. I had planned on keeping Infinity Squad under my hat until the PU, but I was concerned that if I didn't at least plant the seeds of interest in the concept itself, I would have more difficulty establishing the infrastructure to make the idea work.

With that said, TEST is an organization that will operate on a "mutual-benefit" mindset between members, and that will be how squads and divisions organically form within the organization. When a need arises, and someone is able to meet that need, he will be able to make things happen. Star Citizen has already shown us that there will be a very wide range of necessities and capabilities for TEST Squadron to develop and possess.

Oh, and the problem about independent squads causing the organization to tear itself to pieces? That's usually caused by someone's superiority complex. The best way to deal with that is to just curbstomp that mindset at the door, and remind everyone that this is an all-volunteer organization: If you start a project or operation, don't expect everybody to jump when you tell 'em to jump - you gotta convince them that it's beneficial. If you get people to buy-in, you're off to a good start, but that's not going to be the be-all-end-all; at the end of the day, it's a matter of whether or not you've managed to execute on your ideas, whether small or large. The more you succeed with your ideas, the more people that will become interested in your projects.

Ultimately, if we have squads and divisions, there will be ways for us to communicate between them and resolve any issues that arise; remember, I view squads as "middle or lower management" - they're simply the gears that are driven by the cogs that make up TEST leadership and those who take the initiative. If two parties remain at loggerheads without a resolution, the top brass such as Montoya and Seung Ryul, will come in and resolve it with their own decisions.

While a ship like that will most likely be able to defend itself i can see it been worth a escalation to pirates so they could bring in larger fleets than normal to rob its cargo so yeah escorts are likely advisable but the combination of flack comign from 1 or 2 of those and a escort would truelly be a force to be reckoned with, frankly it couldnt be furture from eve if it tried as eve most mining ships were glass

My ultimate plan is an Endeavor. I like the science aspect of the game a lot. That being said, I actually would like the opportunity to fill any and all rolls possible. I think the more ppl willing to dive into multiple rolls the better. I think inviting different people to try different rolls will ultimately bring the group closer together. This is a tough task with such a large group and you definitely don't want "core group A, group B, etc". So I feel it ultimately falls on the individual to want to TEST different rolls, positions and aspects that the game has to offer. I, for one, hope to learn all crew positions, fly most ships, and dive into as many different rolls as I can while still focusing a good chunk of time on Science and making narcotics I MEAN tinkering with new alien tech and new discoveries. The hope is always to get out of it what you put into it. I'm glad to see a good community on the same page about this specific topic. Old ppl like Montoya and myself are g....... I haven't had a drink yet today so I apologize if any of this makes sense...

Guys, here's an edited (for brevity) snippet from my post on Infinity Squad:
Oh i agree whole heartedly that the discussion of Test fleets or Sub divisions is nessesery but the point we were making is that we should be trying to create discussion of sub divisions rather than people trying to become the leadership of a sub division as frankly its too early to tell who is most suited to it alot can change between now and them like real life commitments and so on, our discussion lead to a general consencous is that sub divs should be discussed to find out who is interested in what, what assets they posses and to theory shoot, but the leadership would come naturally as people who are leaders tend to rise to the possition "Leaders are made not born"

Yes cooperation between sections of out community is vital one of the fears we found was that Divisions would close them selfs in and not work along side other divisions of test in a very us vrs them way, ultamitly we need to make sure that sub divisions remember that they are still test

Agreed as long as peoples egos dont get in the way we should be fine however one good way to help this is to make sure there are a few leaders of each division and some who are common among more than one division this would allow other leaders to slap the back of the head of anyone who the power starts to get to you know?

Yep agree on the last bit also

For now we should just be grouping people and knowing each ones interests, this way we can have an idea of how many members will act in each division. Any form of "organization" is not required since THERE IS NOTHING TO ORGANIZE. At this point we are just a bunch of drunks spitting out ideas, and the best ones will be used in the future, that's all.

Yep, I agree with this view. Discussing the sub-divisions at this point is perfectly fine and fosters closer interaction with the members of TEST. Those who show themselves to be good at considering all the angles of leadership is pretty important.

My squad, Infinity, will always be part of TEST, and in the long term, I hope it will become a valuable and integral part of the organization. :)

All honesty the potential in this game is mental and the best part as we are test we are in a pretty good possition to do some damn awsome stuff in game due to people willing to play and cooperate with others

Totally agree, I wonder how many Orions are in TEST now and think it would be awesome to have a major operation with all of them and take down an entire belt. Would definitely be a sight to see I think.

I know everything is still at a theory-crafting stage, even with the new information on mining and all, but in my own personal opinion I feel it's never too early to "organize" just a little bit to have things a bit more concrete when the PU finally comes around.

As long as there are thousands of people at stake, you're going to run into an increasing influx of people who want to distinguish themselves from the herd. We are human, and that is what humans do, especially males who are congenitally predisposed to their god-given instinctive nature, to compete for dominance. None of that changes when you log into the internet to play a video game; some people have the will power to suppress it, some don't.

By offering up a chance to be in charge of something this big, you're going to have problems. Choosing and sub-dividing monarchs to lead all develops animosity and a fear of favoritism, in extreme yet inevitable circumstances you will get jealousy and a commitment to help others fail - hence the drama you find in big outfits like this one.

I propose people police each other without endorsing entitlements on each other. I'm all about following somebody that shares my ideas and provides a fun experience, but I will otherwise not allow anyone to coerce me into being a subject of another person's agenda unless I'm paid to do so. We have a good thing going for us now lets not fuck it up with micromanagement just yet.

On the flip-side, I don't see a lot of chest-puffing going on, personally. I see a lot of people passionate about one aspect of the game and trying to fill a void of silence for that particular interest. The mining thing, the bomber thing, NKato's thing for smarter people than myself, are all being advertised as team building exercises as far as I'm concerned. Unless somebody can point me to a specific case of selfish promotion I don't see the problem, so good on those guys for taking the initiative. But yea, it is worth noting that some of us would like to keep it that way for now as Ranger has stated quite clearly.

Yep thats prett much the point of this tread alright,

We know next to nothing about how the PU will work so we can theory shoot but last thing we should do however is over think everything and burn out before the game launches, also i would say that anything that gets people talking to each other be it on the forums or mumble is a good thing as that communication is what makes test test
