Been making some moneys bounty hunting lately.

Yes, this is clearly the patch CIG wants you to be doing PvE bounty missions. Enjoy the easy money while it lasts. I'm not sure CIG will keep it up with the 3.13.1 patch...given the C-2 incoming, they will want trade up and running again (I would think...but maybe I'm wrong). In any case, people aren't going to work for their money if they can just go around doing easy missions.

As I watched some PTU reporting, they said in 3.13.1 you won't be able to quantum directly to the target anymore!
So bye bye efficient bounty chain grinds!
There will be no more missions left worth our time I'm afraid. Everyone who want's to make money will just go back to mining imo, if they have something to mine with. The others (I only own a ROC) will mostly suffer, unless they fix trading. That would be a great thing, cos I haven't done any in like a year+ with the badly setup supply/demand limits system and laughable profits...

Yes, I was watching a YT review that mentioned that. Their reading on that was CIG wants to make Bounty Hunting a bit more "realistic" or the adventure it is supposed to be.

In any event, yup, I'm gonna grind a couple hundred thousand more aUEC before they slam the door on that!

If I were CIG, personally I'd buff the reward on the things I wanted needed data on - like missions or whatever - and nurf everything else to push players in the direction I needed the playtesting on...

...If that's what they are doing I have absolutely no problem with that, even in the live PU we are testing rather than playing, but in the spirit of the original 'Transparency' and 'No publisher dick moves' of the project, I just wish they'd say so - those who have had to suffer through a crap local economy the last couple of patches can at least know why it's hard right now and continue to struggle on if they want, or join in with what needs testing until such time the balance is restored and you can turn a decent living in doing what you like to do rather than what's the moneymaker... there is a difference between an informed choice and just having to live with a situation.

That said, telling someone they are part of a test artificially effects their actions in the test making that test null and void... who knows perhaps a recession in the local markets is part of a test to see how many players go bankrupt...?

Agreed on the first bit!

Why would the testing be null and void? The point isn't whether you would do that action, it's how well said action performs. Does it affect server stability, is it buggy, is it balanced and so on. For that, knowing that your are TESTing or not makes no difference I think.

I don't think they are testing for bankruptcy, at least they shouldn't while most of the loss of credits is from bugs and 30Ks. There isn't really any money sinks, apart from the server crashing on you wjike you got cargo onboard, and having to rebuy components every patch. Everything else is either respawnable for free or very cheap (like ammo and fps weapons you might lose)

A lot of tests, especially on things like how a community reacts to a certain set of circumstances, would be rendered useless if the participants knew that what they were doing was a test along with what it involved and why it was needed.

A good example of this is the Milgram experiment where they told participants they were taking part in a study of memory and learning but it was actually on obedience with authority:


Had the participants known it was about compliance with authority they could have complied or rebelled at will in the knowledge there were no repercussions because tests are supposed to have no real world consequences beyond the data generated by the test.

So CIG says "Trade and Mining are nurfed for the next four patches please play the new Refuel and Scrap mechanics" Salty traders may go ape on the those trying to refuel or collect scrap creating a bunch of dud data due to interference, mardy miners may log off for 4 patches and come back when their favored play comes back to strength meaning an incomplete set of data...?

Just my personal thoughts on the matter, I might be talking a load of old toss.

There is avocado for a reason! AFAIK they do get told what to concetrate on, what to try out and test before it goes into wider ptu. Then there were times when even the open PTU got told they should be doing X at Y time on a day, to do mass testing. This is enough to set up a baseline for balance/ see if stuff is working at least kinda like it's intended.
Then there is the live enviroment.
In the PU, it all evens out and returns to a neutral state where everyone does what they want to invest their time in, regardless of the fact that they are told or not told what to test.
If bounties are the only time efficient way of earning UEC, some of us might do just that. If it's mining, then that, especially since the ROC is so cheap and easy to get.
There are loads of ppl who just want to muck about with their friends doing stuff that's irrelevant to any sort of focused testing CiG might want to see.
There are those that just want to explore, see what sights they can find around the moons and planets.
Then there are those who just wanted to chill and do something while watching stuff on another screen and want to do box runs or trade, low effort low risk stuff...

I think this testing can only get us so far in balancing the game, and everything will need to be totally re-balanced once we get a proper working economy with fully fleshed out dynamic supply and demand, insurance w dynamic claim times, and ofc missions, all between multiple star systems. Whether we in the PU are told what's being TESTED or not is irrelevant to the outcome at this point.

Well, I'm beginning to think the UEE have something against me.

Flew Olisar to Hurston to grab the ROCmk1. I was then down 170k aUEC so thought okay, I'll do the local clear the monitors missions for 20k aUEC each, my favorite trick now.

It was the third mission where it went wrong. The mission was clear the monitors at comm tower 13, over Ariel, but the mission waypoint was over Aberdeen... i went to Tower 13 and nothing there. Went to Aberdeen (Tower 55 I think?) and there are the monitors, attack them but while doing the job I'd been sent to do got a crime stat for trespass... Either someone at the UEE mission control is awful stupid or awful upset with me.

I voted for Addison. Addison got in. Someone in Stanton appears to be awful sore about that and has chosen to take it out on yours truly. I don't know if it's one of the corporations which own the planets or if it's the UEE representation in the area upset their business may take second fiddle to the Empires priorities and gravy train may be coming off the rails if they have a good arrangement going on, but I know one thing: Grim Hex 'aint so bad when it's the only place you can put your wheels on a pad and grab a drink and a hot meal.
