So there is a 400i coming, and looks flight ready.

Looks like s small Carrack.
*dives at twitch*

the first segment is running 45 minutes long ...
I'm impressed they managed CR to only 5 minutes in that first session.

The session after on space, planet, and outpost tech had a 2 hour 10 minute slot on the agenda. So it tracked.

I was most surprised that the ship team had 1 hour and 45 minutes but really shared about a half hour worth of information.

Talk at me, Tony. Talk at me for as long as you like. If someone threatens to cut your stream for length, we have assets in place who are prepared to do what is necessary to buy you the airtime you desire. Tell the people what they need to hear. Tell them all of the wonders you've birthed!

...*cough*...oh, and it also might be cool to see some progress on the Merchantman. Not holding my breath, but a man can dream.
Got your wish eh? Lol.
I went ahead a re-procured one thanks to @Ayeteeone

As someone on Reddit already put it, I feel like I will be standing at the top of the Flipper-stairs like;

Come, ye of much coin.....there are refreshments in the lobby.

So NO promises of "Pyro and 6 more complete star systems dropping on Christmas day", NO "oh look we got every single issue with persistence and server meshing fixed, will be in 3.15 tomorrow morning"...

My disappointment is immeasurable.

Anyways, here's my recap/feelsies on citcon this year:
This was waaaay too short, sane and predictable and basically like watching a couple weeks worth of calling all devs and such youtube shows they already have.

- from Stanton to PYRO! JUMP POINTS! I still need to watch most of this as I missed half of it and didn't have sound for most. Kinda expanding on what we already seen and knew about it, but I gotta watch more. The important takeaway here, is that they spent a ton of time and effort to make Pyro as interesting and unique as Stanton. This is insanely fucking silly to say the least. Why the hell have all the procedural tools and assets, if you gonna handcraft a star system down to the last rock through multiple years AGAIN! Edit: finished this part of the video, and while they did do loads of custom stuff that feels a unneccessarry for me, they did it in a modular way that makes sense for future works.; Also, don't get your hopes up for seeing any of this in-game just yet, cos server meshing, see below... EDIT2: Pyro is coming with 4.0, as we already knew. But when is 4.0???????????? (when server smashings ready? that's like nobody knows at this point)

- whale talk, I mean ship talk: couple of ships for wthe deeper pocketed enthusiasts (although nice ones, 400i pretty, +another pocket carrier), with full breakdown of the design process which was quiet interesting for me as I'm an artsy fartsy type by job description

- gen12 and holy vulkan : trying to explain in way too simple terms mixed with unexplained hardcore jargon (and some very hard to understand accents) why gen12 multithreaded renderer is good for us. This could've been far more interesting and detailed I think, I really enjoyed these panels last citcons. Vulkan is kinda like Cryengine all over again... not exactly the best tool for the job, except this time there is already something else that is actually proven to work (DX) but whatever, if that's what they feel like going with....

- a very short showcase of base building tools (and hint of us being able to use it, probably for our own land/homestead building stuff!?) most interesting part of the whole show for me tbh

- SERVER MESHING:
this SHOULD have been the most important and interesting part of CitCon as this is what everything depends on. Missions, AI, traffic, more gameplay systems, more star systems... Everything is dependent on this. And we got told this, again, for the what, 4th year in a row? That's it. You can go away now, nothing else to see here. Well, I guess we were given a bit of info by the dev that they can/will? deploy a basic implementation that is still half done and missing the actually important half, and not even a hint at how long this will take, let alone the whole thing...
It will be done when it's done was the only answer given, by Jared of all people. Very very very disappointing.

- a new audio implementation+tool that sounds like it does the exact same things as the one before it (reactive, scriptable, blah blah) , just easier to dev with even more? good! .... Still, the most boring bit of the whole show, waaay too long.

- Tony Z, the gawd amongst men (according to Boredgamer at least), explains dynamic events (again), how they should work (again) and how they don't (again), shows the same things (or even less than on the weekly show) about Quanta, while getting interrupted by 2 others devs who shouldn't have been there. Just STFU and let the man talk for gods sakes, or at least ask intelligent things! Gaaawd...
I was really looking forward to this, but this was another disappointing bit, with everything still being in roughly the same stage as before, and not much explanation to it. Meh....

Every panel was separated by shorts made by players, most of them were actually pretty competent and even fun to watch, not that many cringe moments, which is rather off-brand for citcon. Props to those who made them!
As a side note: one of these featured cosplay, or at least it looked like live footage edited into gameplay, that would have swept the floor with this years cosplay winners. Those armors were H O T!

Jared Jareded as usual, not much to comment on him connecting segments.

Well, you're not wrong here. It feels like CIG has been stalling this for some reason, and there isn't a reason related to the idea or the technology requirements. That doesn't leave much on the table for why they haven't yet implemented any of it, and that's a bit disturbing. One thing it could be related to is a very large number of bugs they've ignored or left behind. That is decidedly not a good development practice, because eventually they start blocking new features. You can tell when that's happening in a project because they have to go back and re-write stuff they did again and again. Sound familiar?

I've got a comment - I thought he did a great job, really entertaining and bought energy and pace to the proceedings.

His sometimes borderline cringe overly dramatic style is not my cup of tea but I think he did a solid a job as usual. Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm still waiting for ppl to point out how wrong I'm for not being hyped about X and how did I miss Y in the presentation as its the awesomestest thing since sliced bread! Come on truest of believers, where are you when I need you!

Frankly my takeaway from this CitCon is that I can't really criticise them for what was shown, just that everything is taking so damn long. It's a sad reality that's wearing me down.
