Who else is a sim racer?

Sim Racing is exploding onto the seen. Just this last year we have built more sim racing rigs and cockpits than I think we did the 10 years previous. Even with the ultra scarcity of unobtanium grade GPU's.

I for one have always planned to do sim racing, Truck Sim planetside ops if at all possible in the SC. The more we get to see things take shape in the verse the more I think us sim racers and truck simmers will be pleasantly surprised even if we can't even do some simple space truckin' in 3.15 we can dare to dream about the future right? Anyway, post up your ATS/ETS, Sim Rig if you got em. I know most of you Euro guys have always had a healthy sim racing culture but only in the last 3 years or so have us US/Canadian guys got some real growth. Even just my normal race car buddies, kids I grew up with are getting into Sim Racing, Truck Sim, and ofc now Star Citizen ;) Now that we finally have something tangible to share with non-backer friends.

BONUS QUESTION:
Any other real life race car guys in here? I grew up street racing and drag racing but now do mostly like half mile stuff when I can, and getting my son into time attack/circuit as soon as he is old enough. I know some of you EU, Aus/NZ guys are Sim Racers, and a lot of sim racers are IRL car guys too ofc. Here are some of my little turbo 4bangers, shop cars, and sim racing stuffs. Hit me up if you want to race in AC, ACC, iRacing, Gran Turismo, Forza, etc!

Ow, there were 2 questions.... Well, I used to have a racing wheel in my pit. It blocked the keyboard, so when not used, I put it underneath the keyboard tray. After 2 years not being used and hanging underneath the tray, well someone else can make better use of it.
Then I made a quick and dirty improvised race pit for my son.

I’ve raced Forza since Forza 2 and owned every title since. Still top 20 Nurburgring on FM7 overall. Haven’t really been at it as I’m waiting for the next title to drop. Burnt myself out hot lapping. This was me two months ago getting right back into it to see how rusty I’d gotten. And uh. I need to actually practice again.

I wish I had something to show off for my lifetime long love of vehicles, but I got no Sim rig, and no racecars. Those roided up civics look like they can actually put down some power, very cool!

Unlike the ricers I used to beat in light to lights while I still had my old shitbox. It didn't have power but it had short gearing and some carefully selected length of tubing on the intake with a power-robbing but awesome sounding cone filter did shift the torque down low enough to be felt (and robbed like 5% hp off the top end but that didn't matter when you were doing 0-50-0mph)
Since I sold it cos we now own a "grown up car" cos family, I'm on the lookout to get something fun again (recently looked at some ol MG F-s) but I won't have the chance to get that for like 2-3 years at least, cos it seems I'll have an extra youngling to take care of soon.

I competed in national RC car racing for 4 years and been a champion in my category for 3 of those, back when I was around 15yo. I still have the about 30 throphies and the last car I raced , but they are packed away as I'm switching rooms.

From the first indy500 game on whatever console we had in the 80's to the latest NFS I kinda played em all.
I got kinda bored of doing games like Asetto or good ol GTR2 seriously, I never really had the gear for it and I'm shit with a gamepad. I only hop on casual games like NFS and Horizon to see the cars, do some casual collecting and customization, enjoy the craziness and that's it.
Recently the game I most enjoyed was Art of Rally, the simplicity of oldschool driving with KB is very satisfying for me as I up with that type of game. Gamepad was the last thing I wanted to use with my PC, I played through NFS:MW still using a full on joystick lol

What I do go back to time and time again is ETS and ATS, combined in all those games, If I count the time I spent "off the record" on the high-seas versions, it must be over a 1000 hours easily.
I recently got into doing Bus Sim21 although it is a much inferior experience. Also I love Car Mechanic Sims, although the driving model is kinda, well, funny hehehehe
Man, I can't wait to finish up with the room switcharoo, I may finally have the space to buy or rather build a proper steering wheel and pedals setup!

My life long friend and now mechanic is running a car (sponsored by one of the largest local car magazines as well) in amateur 4H racing and also does all the drift events and car shows in the country he can get to, and I get to hang out inside the pit ofc, sometimes even helping out but mostly just providing moral support and keeping out of the way. I'll be also doing some merch in the form of prototyping a keytag of their logo, already have the first version done.
Here's the little diesel engine that could (yes really, cos less pit stops) compact bimmer, they won in category and overall by 2 laps.

That Rear spoiler. The thing is a Diesel-powered plane, I'm sure of it! (That or its a Decepticon, either way, its awesome)

Well spotted! Usually everybody just laughs at it cos it does look silly, but that's how a functional wing looks like lol
It is properly CAD designed, aero simulated and everything (expect for a real life wind tunnel test), specifically designed and made for that car. So while it looks like the wings off a hotwheels or cartoon car, it does indeed work great! The wing itself is CF, the plates holding it up are aluminium, and theres a lot of 3d printed ABS brackets and stuff on it too, plus some cross bracings made from cf rods I think.

When they lapped the 2nd place car for the 2nd time, the 2nd place guy lost his nerves and slammed into the wing a bit on the main straight, so the lower half got bent out of shape. Thankfully my buddy was smart enough to secure it to the rear crash bar properly, not just to some random body rail, so it didn't fall off. Still it will need some stronger cross-bracing cos it started kinda breaking apart by the end on it's own from the forces as well lol

edit: oh, and did I mention the intercooler sprayer? It really helps keep the engine temps down, and can be refilled during a driver change easily and operated from the steering wheel I think. It was a really hot day so it got used a lot!

are you by chance getting Forza Horizon 5? Comes out I think on the 9th. Different kinda racer, more arcadish, but trying to find people who are.
Yeah, coming out on the 9th, or the 5th if you got the Premium Edition with the 2 unannounced expansions. I played 3 and 4 on keyboard. I'm useless with a gamepad and never got my old Logitech wheel to work correctly on either one. In FH3 I had the bug where the smallest turn would apply 100% turning and FH4 it felt like it was cutting out my inputs at times. It has surprisingly good keyboard controls however.
I'm MagicMackerel on Xbox if you want to add me.

Lets kick this up a notch, who has driven some great tracks in real life? I know it was awesome to have some local tracks scanned and iRacing before it got lame. Nothing beat the feeling of pulling up to a NASCAR track, going through the tunnel and ending up on the infield surrounded by the grandstands, oh and walls everywhere.

I've done a couple laps of the Hungaroring GP circuit, it was rather underwhelming because we had a lead car we had to follow so max speed was like 120kph I think. That's less than the highway speed limit lol Also the second half of the track was being rebuilt so there were roadworks.

And I dunno if it counts as a track but we've done the Monte Carlo GP circuit, or at least as much of it as it was possible on a Tuesday morning. Absolutely stunning place despite the traffic jam lol

Nordschleife is on the bucket list, back a few years ago we were seriously considering it with my friend but then the pandemic hit. It's only like a 1000-1200km drive from where we live.

yeah that is a life goal stuff right there. that is so cool. ive got some experience driving on PIR (it's a pretty mediocre track but it's my home track I grew up with). Seattle Raceways (a really bad track), and then ofc I have done one club race at Sonoma which was rad. I used to do a little work for Honda - Indy Car tho and got some ride alongs but who wants to be in anything but the drivers seat you know!

This is us at Sonoma.

We 100% need a TESTes:BESTes Chump Car Team. Not even joking I would back this financially and any other way possible here in a couple-few seasons. As long as we can do it with two fully functional kegs installed (tech might have an issue with it tho lol) in our vehicle.

Some pics tho:

I had my XKR up to 160 MPH a couple times here. No track. We just have nice highways here in NJ. Car would have gone faster but there is an electronic limiter built in. Both times with the roof down--was truly a hurricane howling just over my head.

Nordschliefe is definitely worth it, though I would look into a day where it isn't a "public" day so you avoid motorcycles, wagons full of families, and cargo vans. Did it Sep 2019 right before the pandemic, I want to go back for Spa and a few other EU courses.

Here in the US though, I have done 2 NASCAR rovals/infields (Phoenix and Fontana) and a bunch of other local or Socal tracks.

Working on going to COTA, Road Atlanta, Sonoma, And Sebring soon. Have Laguna Seca and Thunderhill this year.
