1000 staff just in Manchester, what does that mean for the other sites?
Future expansions for those locations and one in Asia if things go well. Hell even if SC fails SQ42 is going to bank off of the tech CIG has already created for the game engine, selling those tool licenses or possibly a new engine altogether. The only thing that would make a sequel for SQ42 better would be to hire a porn star to act in it.

Im not sure why this was not new news to me.

Did I imagine it, or did CIG mention sequels to SQ42 a few times in the past?

Many times actually. The end of SQ42 to the entrance of the SC is about 10 years of in game time if memory servers. The reason for that was to include expansions on SQ42.

Old old video, might have changed a bit between then and now but multiples was the original intention. In terms of scoops the article is about 6 years behind, however good to know it's still on the cards :-)

It was the staff numbers in Manchester that was most interested in 1000. That is more than they have worldwide right now I think.

Maybe it's to a point to where the foundation is done so now, they just have to throw bodies at SQ42. More bodies = more progress. Thats not always the case with game dev, sometimes no matter how many people you put on the project you really can't move any faster if certain things aren't in place.

Time line is a bit of speculation.... a bit too much.
If you look at the progress tracker all the works for SQ42 are actually scheduled to end late this year, but there are a lot's of things missing there, like phisicalized damage, control surfaces for plane-like ships etc... hard to see a release during 2024, maybe be beta...

Concerning sequel I'll actually like to see a prequel, something setted up during the first Tavarin war, it will be good setup considering the first contact experience and also the fact that we'll be able to see the original version of Tavarin ships, not the actual Esperia's "reproduction", that could be a possibility to introduce some dept in to the eproduction concept.
