Now that the 2024 Game Awards is over and winners announced, I just wanted to give a big shout out to the game of the year winner, Astro Bot. Although not my cup of tea, there's lot of passion that goes into making an excellent game...and I appreciate that.

Although the 2024 Game Awards have come and gone, I think Test Squadron should award our very own "BEST GAME EVER" award. Clearly SC or SQ42 would win this category hands down, but since they haven't yet released a finalized product I was curious which game you'd vote for this coveted award?

My vote is for:
Red Dead Redemption 2 - IGN

Oh gawd so many good, games...

I'll go for Open TTD, the open source remake of Transport Tycoon Deluxe. This game in its various forms since 1995 is most definitely the one I've thrown most hours at, and it was the first game waaaay back then that I lost a whole night to. Sat down at 8.30pm to put in an hour, looked back up at the clock at 4am. Eh, might as well play on until sunrise.

Elaboration is necessary and required my friend :)
Read the cover. Not only is it the glorious adventure Day of the Tentacle, it also contains the award winning Maniac Mansion.
That's 2 games that belong way at the top of everybody's must have played list. 2/3rds of the holy trinity.
1) Day of the Tentacle
2) Maniac Mansion
3) Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders

+1 for this
I always have this installed on every PC, laptop, fridge and whatever else I can install it on. It always there when there's no interenet, when I just don't feel like playing anything and so...

Reminds me of various forms of the Sim City franchise, remember this while playing them, "IAMACHEAT" whenever you're feeling a bit broke or need a pick me up to get going again.

Many of the best games, start out simple, but then increase in difficulty the further the player progresses. My nominee for Best Game Ever (so far), also helps teach people how to pack / arrange things, a skill that is useful in numerous places. TETRIS!

Anybody that has ever played this & later been on a trip, moved or had to organize something, TETRIS surely helped make that easier for them. While I was working as a bagger at a grocery store when I was 16-17, I used to hum the music from TETRIS while bagging things for customers, because doing that is like a multi dimensional version of the game in RL.

I miss the snake phone game. That was the one that got me through those times... it's just not the same without physical buttons.
I had a handheld tetris thingi but it was some cheap knockoff and the buttons died in a year. No music, just beeps and boops.

Yeah, I'd thought about suggesting pong, especially given its roll in gaming history as the game that started making gaming available to the masses comparatively, but I had to go with TETRIS in regards of my own experiences. I almost suggested that castle PC game that I believe was called Adventure. It was 1 of the games highlighted in the movie Ready Player One. That was the 1st actual PC game I'd ever played, followed closely by LOGO Writer.

My grandmother got me a new original Nintendo Gameboy a few years after they came out for My B-Day when their price finally went down, that was shortly before the Gameboy Color was released. I later repaid her by getting her hooked on TETRIS on my NES after I'd graduated from that to the N64 I believe. LoL
