Why do paints have to be locked to your home location?

Star Citizen encourages us to explore the 'verse, which is rewarding in both senses. We are away from 'home' a lot. Maybe all the time? I get that choosing your starting location should feel impactful and consequential - we're not all itinerant hoboes.

So, flying around doing stuff, if you have a few ships in your hangar and haven't claimed one this patch, you can have it delivered anywhere in minutes, free, at the click of a button.

News doesn't travel throughout a star system instantly (in game) but it certainly gets about. Contracts are quickly and easily broadcast between planets and systems, and some disappear when a player claims them.

But a paint scheme? Those don't travel well. If you have one, and want to apply it to your newly delivered ship, you have to trek back to your 'home' location to get it.

Why?

Well not quite all paints are bound to your home.
Liveries you buy at Dumpers Depot wait for you at the location of the shop.
But every gear you buy on the CIG Website gets solely delivered to your home hangar.
They should take a page out of any other webshops book and add a "deliver to" option for our orders.
Only with an ingame location list to pick from.
Because if you buy that FOMO patch bundle you need to grab your trousers too.
Or that turret with the 2x S4 gatlings.
Or them bespoke Wulf guns.
Or...
damn...
this game's a money sink, ain't it?

I mean pretty much everything else in game you need to physically transport from one place to another so I don't see why paints should be any different? It would be good if they were physicalised into big paint barells that you had to load on your ship tho :D

And then spraypaint the sphips yourself with a SRT Tool or somesuch?
Sounds like something they might do in the long run... 😅

True, but those are things you can put on and take off. Can space paint be removed and put back in the barrel when you switch to another paint, so you have to take it with you? I get that they've done the same for a paint as they would do for another component, but... it's paint!

Last time I was in game they were paint cans you could load on to your ship inventory and fly them to where you wanted to be, loading them into the destination inventory. I used to do it all the time carting my crap over to Long Forest station where I most liked to be.

Have they locked them down to just your initial spawn? :-(

Haha funny I always gravitated towards Long Forest too - nice and quiet and peaceful. I spawned in Nyx this time. Mistake. To many people :D

Well, at least in my inventory they are still those silly cans of paint. Never tried carrying them with me though.
Come to think of it, never salvaged one either.
Whatcha think of a new scrapper mechanic for the Vulture and friends?
Paint scrapping? For a new resource called W.A.X.
Not to steal the color, just to repaint repaired hulls.
You know like...

For paintjobs, It's a dumb implementation stuck with us from way back when they started adding them. It should be reworked cos it's just bad.
What I'd do is, make paints into data, attached to you at all times (mobiglass), and have every hangar that is capable of repair and ship storage (so every hangar right now), be capable of changing paints. They could put a price tag on the repaint, but make it something small relative to ship size, like 500-5000cr, unless done in your home location where it should be free.
