What motivates you to buy ships?

I started off late with the Gladiator package and thought, what the hell, why not? I'm in way deep now and a sucker for LTI. I look for ships to fill various roles. I hate to miss out on a role that is rewarding in game, and only way to ensure I have the capability is to build a fleet of ships.

If this game sucks, I'm swearing off gaming.

If its cool, then that's enough for me. Though my OCD demands it have LTI. My OCD also won't let me cancel my sub, because then it would be incomplete.

It is the genius marketing. Start with the standard package it's ok but not quite satisfying. Then there is a really good looking ship that is only about 10 or 15 dollars more, so you drop that but it was only a ship so now it's time to pick up another package they are only 30 bucks or so. Now this amazing ship you have been waiting for goes on sale and you haven't spent any money on SC for a couple of weeks so hey lets melt some and pick up that bad boy with LTI because it is limited. lather rinse repeat.

I'm with you buddy, I still just own the default Aurora that came with the game package years ago. If I really had just completely disposable money I might grab some ships, but I've got more important things to do with it I guess.

I too have only bellied up to the bar for just one ship, but now that my computer is put together (mostly) I hope to add in at least a couple more to my hangar before the pu opens up. I can't afford much, and my wife would kill me if I overstep what I buy on this computer and game (first bairn starts college in the fall and I keep hearing how we are paying for it), but I really love what I've seen of this so far and want the game to succeed, and salute those of you who can make the fleet happen in a big way.

Here's my philosophy, I threw some money at CR to make the Best Damn Space Sim EVER!!! Now ask anyone here, I have changed my ships more than they change their underwear (eyes @CaptainRichard ). I bought some ships, didn't like them, melted them, got some more, repeat. So far the only constant has been the Cutlass Red, I like the way it flies, I like the extra scanners(or the idea of them), and it would only take a minimal amount of modification to make it fill any role I want. And I still have another ship I can melt, plus a few bucks in store credit. With the REC system, I don't have to be melt happy, but I still fly before I fly.

I have 30+ ships. I like having every option available so no matter what I want to do, I can just go do it. To me the game is all about who you're playing the game with and not about getting to the next ship. I also like the idea that TEST should have the biggest, baddest fleet of them all!

What motivates you to buy ships?

For bigger ships
Dreams of the role that ship can/could perform in the huge verse. Role playing and money making going hand in hand.

For smaller ones
Exotic nature of the design (Xi'An), look and feel of the ship (Gladiator is a dream to fly and battle in).

I want to support the full development of the game. Contributing now helps that out.

Investing in ships now, specifically LTI ones, gives me the chance to play with the ship when it goes live. I will also have a LTI bargaining chip later that I can sell, trade or barter for something bigger and better.

I have been waiting for this game since the Wing Commander days. I can not wait for the PU to go live.

I want a spaceship, I'm not educated enough to build my own so I figured I'd get one from RSI since they're so cheap. I'd at least have though they'd be more expensive than a car.

I got the Hornet, that's it. I want to have fun in an org. with guys in mumble even when everyone else is flying their Idris and i'm more the debris circling around them.

But if more people would think like me, CR would still only have like 30 million and the game wouldn't be as amazing as it is going to be.

Pretty much buy the ships that fit the roll that I would like to play. I have the feeling I want to be industrial in the game so I have a Hull, a Starfarer Gemini and am very interested in getting the crucible when it hits concept sales. Also the money helps to fund the game that looks to be shaping up very well and with these ships I could help Test on the more support side of missions. ^^

If I put in 10 bucks a month I am spending less than my wife spends on coffee at Starbucks( I could spend 60 bucks a month and still be spending less). At that rate I could have a fairly good collection by the time the game comes out. I used to spend more than that on WOW and EVE when I wasn't even playing the games.
