Some early backers can go F** themselves

Qhat do you think?

  • The guy is a wacko. This asshole needs some serious help.

  • He makes some good points. Hmm, I can see his point and I somewhat agree.

  • Are you crazy? I am not reading all that. I get it, just another mega troll.

  • I have my own beliefs and I really don't care. CS is going to be amazing, and I am willing to wait.

  • Indifferent. Next plz.

Yeah, a lot of people are saying that .PDF was actually written by Derek Smart, a mega-butthurt game dev that is vocalizing his frustration with not being the person that created the ambitious space sim we know as Star Citizen.

It's sad, really. From what I've skimmed, he apparently had some grand aspirations to create a game along the lines of SC many years ago, but he had neither the resources nor the talent to have his pipe dreams come to fruition. So he's now attempting a smear campaign and threatening frivolous lawsuits against CIG to justify his ego-driven complaints.

To be glib: Haters gonna hate.
haha yes "haters gonna hate, cause they anus" I love that quote

There needs to be some higher power or governing body watching RSI/CIG. They ban people for non-sense on their forums, even if they are subscribers, they can be perma-banned and unable to even contest it. Its true, if Chris Roberts dies for instance, we all lose our money. They do TAX our DONATIONS.. Donations are, as an example, TAX DEDUCTABLE, not taxable. They also do not allow refunds. Thats against the consumer act, period. Because I am in Quebec, on one of my accounts, I have been able to charge back and get my money. CIG refused, when i asked. My Credit card company didn't think twice, and I never heard anything else about it.

There are some silly things going on in Star Citizen. It has taken quite a long time to make this game, they were making this game with as small a budget as $2M USD. Yet, fail to deliver much of it, at 90Million. Chris Roberts has bragged tons, about having a model for business to sell, that would make other companies alot of money, based on his crowd funding for StarCitizen.

Now, I am not saying its a scheme, I think they are getting rich, sure, but I think they will be making the game. I like to think positive.
But, the part about Taxes bothers me, and then saying its a donation. Thats greedy. Im a business man, and theres no need for that crap. Especially considering its virtual goods. Also, if LTI was promised ONLY to original campaign kickstarter backers, then it should have been honored.

Everyone else would have been fine, they would have thought of the original backers as "extremely lucky" etc.. potentially, less LTI would help fund the economy more. But since this is a game you can mod and make your own of, hacking and cheating is going to be super easy, there are going to be exploits galore. There is pretty much no point getting anything but an Aurora Game package. Thats also pretty much what our boss says too. "get an aurora package.." swear I can hear his voice in my head saying it... and picturing him with that scowling expression infront of his greenscreen.,..

What they said about LTI on the kickstarter was the ships they were selling to the backers would only be LTI to them, not there would not be any other LTIs later. As far as the modding and what not that is only for private servers (such as one you host for you and just your friends) not for the PU that everyone would be on. Just thought I would help clear that up.

A lot of companies, in a wide variety of industries, use clever (but not illegal) bookkeeping to get around paying taxes. Sure, it might not be the "morally correct" thing to do, but they aren't the only ones doing it. Case in point: the NFL

@Anna

That would require spending development money to run a legal battle. It might be possible, but it's really not what they want to do atm.
(Or so it seems to me.)

Its a simple fact - they had their plan/goals and these were meet, they then saw possibilities to move in a different direction which they fully saw as being 'better'. I in no way see them changing up things purely to screw people over but this is a con/pro situations where the con is longer potential wait times but the pro could be a much better game.

I can't believe people cant believe the project wouldn't get bigger with an increase in funding. If the project stayed the same and we were much closer to releasing the modules or perhaps would have had a few already out on the original plan - the people moaning about delays and failed promises would be replaced by people shouting about 'where has the money gone'

You have the right attitude, but the problem is a lot of people are easily swayed by negativity and immediately expect the worse.

I'm still here, hoping for the BDSSE. From what I have seen, and read, this "Bo Chen" guy and D Smart are just blowing smoke, and wording the facts to suit their arguments. i.e. Chris Roberts says "No Subscriptions" and "Bo" starts whining about the monthly subscriber perks, which doesn't affect the game, in any way shape or form. Or D Smart being butt hurt about Erin Roberts working for Chris, saying he doesn't have the qualifications.... Um ... REALLY????????

Ortwin Freyermuth is the co-founder and lead attorney for Cloud Imperium Games, who has worked on numerous films and games as a lawyer and general legal counsel. I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't want to tangle with an intense German dude with decades of law experience in court.

Ouch. I swear I lost more brain cells trying to read those posts than from last night's bender. Poll needs multiple choice option for "They're crazy butthurt, I'm not reading this, and I believe in this game."

I would, on the other hand, love to listen to him take somebody apart with a viciously logical, airtight argument, all delivered in a strong German accent. Well, if he actually had a strong accent. I can dream.

Sometimes you can tell who is writing based on their style and habits. I even hear that there exists copyright protection analysis software out there which can, given a substantial body of text, identify authors by name based on style (heard that from Steven King during an interview). I would love to get that software ran against DS's blog (http://dereksmart3000ad.tumblr.com/post/123125564079/interstellar-citizens) and the write up on the ia601506.us.archive.org (link above). Call it intuition, but just seems like very similar writing styles. I can't help but think that there would be something scandalous (and fun) to linking these two documents to the same author.

EDIT: ooh, it's called stylometry and I found some software for it :) http://www.philocomp.net/humanities/signature.htm

EDIT: fiddled around with it, and not really getting anywhere. I tried comparing some prose I wrote, and according to the stats (Chi-square), I just might have multiple personality syndrome *ha* but seriously, +50 fake internet points if someone can figure this stylometry thing out.

I am just happy that non of the bigger gaming sites, posted an article with the same sentiment as in that PDF.

That site would be bombed beyond belief.
But there is no such thing as bad advertisement. Their rating would go sky high.
