Test cockpit, best cock...

What's your favorite way of holding your stick?

  • Loose on the shaft, thumb on the tip.

  • Kung Fu Grip.

  • I don't have a stick- I click my mouse.

  • Montoya's nipples. That is all.

This is what I made. In total, its 27 toggle switches, 9 push buttons, and
7 rotary encoders to total 64 individual inputs. Basically, I like switches
and buttons. It's based loosely on A-10C panels, but generalized more to
work across multiple sim platforms, it's back-lit, and it's built in much
the same way that professional cockpit simulators aren't. All I need now are one of those Test Patches (@RussianJ) to show some love. ;)

Meh, real builders would just wire that all up to an arduino and HARDCODE THAT MOFO!!!!

in other news, nice build! Looks great. Once I get a "space" of my own that's not in a garage, I'll probably build something like this. Nice to know about the Leo Bodnar stuff. Never heard of it, but it looks snazzy!

Definitely prefer the BBI-32 over the arduino builds in terms of simplicity.

That's a pretty awesome looking build. As soon as I get my tools back, I'm planning to attempt some modifications for my desk, althouhg not nearly as ambitious as that. Very nicely done!

AND - everytime you restart StarCitizen you have to remap all that again....one by one...

NOT TRUE!! I export the mapping and copy the file. So after every update I put the control file back into the folder and I don't have to remap anything!

Edit: Also, I found a tiny program called SVMapper that you can use to assign key strokes to an input, which, if you use the default keystrokes for SC, you never have to worry about remapping in-game again.

Edit: Edit: Also also, SVMapper works with The X55 as long as you kill the Saitek programming software that runs in the background.

So... How much for you to send me one? Am in flight training, maybe I can pass it off as a 'learning device'

I use a mix of grips, sometimes you are just cruising, other times you are hunting down that asshole that shot you well you were trying to land! >.<

Yeah it's pretty sweet. Showed my wife and told her I want to do something like that and she just rolled her eyes at me.
That's too bad. My wife likes it when I do stuff like this. The more hobbies I have the less I'm bothering her during "Heart of Dixy" or some other crap-tactic Netflix binge.

I already have a pretty big corner desk that she wants me to get rid of. So I think she'd be all for it if it meant getting rid of the desk. Haha. She would also prefer me to sit with her when she's watching something and sadly my laptop doesn't handle the graphics of SC very well. Maybe I'll build a Sim setup around my recliner or on one end of the couch.

I imagine she'd be totally and fully accepting of you getting rid of the big desk and turning part of the living room recliner into a fake spaceship cockpit, then you could sit in there with her while she's watching shows :)

That's exactly my thought. I can just convert an end section on the couch to setup my desktop PC and dual monitors, then I'll build in tables to support keyboard, mouse, throttle and stick. Maybe I'll just copy one of those flight sim type frames. I'll just have to figure out how to fold such a cumbersome thing away when not in use........I can just picture the eye rolling and the "I don't think so", now.
