3.14 PTU Wave 1 is out

This is part of a COMPLETE rebalance that CIG is working on. All the guns were drastically changed, but also all the shields, all the missiles, and I think damn near all the ships tuning. There are multiple goals in work; chief among them is making multicrew gameplay much more desirable. So...

Can someone explain how to employ stealth, and the limits of its usefulness?

Can someone explain how to employ stealth, and the limits of its usefulness?

Agreed.. this is one of those areas where the needs for gameplay required something different. This patch is HEAVILY focused on multiplayer ships and co-operation, although there is a long way to go. @Raven_King Conceptually, nothing is different from what has been presented in this thread...

Can someone explain how to employ stealth, and the limits of its usefulness?

The wording could be clearer, but - a ship's radar is passive, until you send out a Ping which is active. Passive gives you a certain range, Ping gives you more range. Scan gives information about targets that you have either picked up passively, or with a Ping. IR, EM and CS are...

Can someone explain how to employ stealth, and the limits of its usefulness?

Two thoughts - 1) Ping is active, and somehow checks all 3 characteristics. Normal 'radar' in this game is passive until you push the button. And all of it is a long way from done. 2) 3.14 incoming. Brace for heavy rolls, er, 'balancing'. Some folks might want to stock up on potato chips...

A mining org's leader reflections on their being ambushed by a pirate org

By exploit I meant the older definition of actions taken, not the current gamer definition of unintended gameplay. Sorry, bad choice of words on my part. My point is that they are and have been doing the piracy thing, and can be expected to expand their targets as the game develops. THEY are...

A mining org's leader reflections on their being ambushed by a pirate org

No, boss, I'm not kidding. Because they are often out there trying out the different tools in the game, and tactics for employing them. Sometimes crudely, sometimes effectively, but the point is that they are doing it at a directed, team level. I'm not saying they are awesome folks in any way...

A mining org's leader reflections on their being ambushed by a pirate org

Mongrel Squad has been working the piracy gameplay for years now. It's worth checking out their youtube channel to see who is in their group, and how they operate. PvP holds no personal interest for me, but it's part of the game, and we DO need targets to shoot at..

Anyone use a portable secondary monitor?

Gechic Onlap monitors https://www.gechic.com/en/ There are several options and this is the one I am currently using - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1302893-REG/gechic_1503h_15_6_ips_1080p.html I've been using this brand for 7 or 8 years. Initial purchase was as a second screen for my...

3.14 Leaked images and info. Orison landing zone, clones, refueling and more.

F*** the leakers. If you are willing to break the trust of a simple NDA, it says a lot about your utter lack of character, and I don't want to fly with you, contract with you, or trust you in a fight. GTFO. Whether there should or should not be an NDA for non-corporate individuals such as...

    Medium-sized ships discussion

You asked for opinions.. probably a dangerous thing to do here :) I'm going to second what @Blind Owl said, and third @Stevetank 's insight. Nothing is now, as it will be in the long run. Personally, I hit a wall regarding anything ships. I have a core collection of career ships to cover...

    Can you make Khartu-Al invisible?

Whether you are detected or not depends on a number of factors; there is not a hard and fast 'now we got you'. Let's do a quick example based on the mission for clearing illegal miners. I.E. a Raven fitted with 2 GT-870's hits nicely at ~3100 meters. With a Stealth A fit and given time to...

    Can you make Khartu-Al invisible?

There is also an Elephant in the Room, in the form of the upcoming changes to Radar, Scanning and Ping. John Crewe made some cryptic comments about this during the recent ship update show which seem to indicate major changes. Having said that, I've enjoyed the discussion as this is near and...

Memorial Day - Thanks for your service.

A drink for those who are no longer with us. This morning, it's coffee. Tonight, it will be whiskey. The list grows longer each year. There are no politics in this thought, no borders. It is a remembering that some who act as a shield to others, are carried home.

    Sneak peek Redeemer engines

There's been quite a few images from whitebox that have been released. I'm really liking this, might be the first multicrew ship that I think has a genuine role in the 'verse.

    Best Stealth Transport

No, I mean the FL-33's you referenced earlier. The GT-220's are also quite a good choice if the pilot has skills to keep guns on target long enough. All of the guns generate heat, some more or faster than others. Prolonged firing of any of them will push the signature beyond the detection...
