That's a really good question. It's part of the design production process. It's made out of wood because it's cheaper than plastic for the manufacturing stage. You could 3d print this, nothing technical stops you. It's just that CNC is actually a lot faster for large objects, and you're not...

I like this conversation, but I want to point out that this will become silly very quickly, if it's that easy to get a ship. The idea that you can just killl some noob who doesn't have a clue, or a guy going for a piss in RL for his ship is just too easy. It needs to have a much higher risk...
