The Avenger is the cheap to run, quick to recover starter ship, when taking out the Carrack doesn't make financial sense. The Avenger also makes sense for running courier missions when the game resets or kicks off. :)

Now that is a good idea. The Valkyrie just turned up on my radar recently. It flies better than I expected. It can, legitimately, carry a rover, which after paying attention to seversl of the game play demos sounds more important than I used to think it did.
