I've noticed using gimbaled weapons doesn't seem to track the ground turrets well, we punched through them with a Carrack, but even then, the pilot had to keep moving, it was eating the shields.

If you're looking to dip your toe into the analog market so to speak, the usual startup of the dual T16000's are the way to go. Cheap as dirt and they are even easy to upgrade from with a pro stick down the line. Just replace whatever stick you use as primary for the pitch/yaw with a nice virpil...
