Its been there for a while. Typically the servers are not maxed out besides a few times in the past. It seems like either everyone is hope wanting to play SC or they had issues reducing the playable servers.

I've had this every time a new patch has dropped in the past. It's a bums rush for a few days then it eases off again. As there is a referral event on my guess is there is an additional 50% of players trying to get on, the players who would have been trying and their referred friends.
Pity I don't have any PC playing IRL friends not already in the game. I was tempted to make another account but then realized I have a 72 month insurance greycat buggy in my buyback I still need to fish back out.

It's for social distancing: even in the PU we need to stay 2 Km away eachother, so they are restricting the player that can enter a server at the same time...
By the way TP is already gone, we need to go "Demolition man" stile...
On the occasions where we run out of TP in my house, I must admit I do find myself swearing loudly at a wall.

Yes, I did end up rolling the cyclone (again) into an inescapable hole between buildings... as any TESTie should!
It's really fun to try to find your way around and between the buildings, climbing and jumping and so on. Also the frozen water would make for a great circuit for racing if we could set up gates!
For some reason my Greycat just blows up whenever it touches certain surfaces, like the frozen lake. Was looking forward to riding that golf cart around in the city...
