A2 Hercules - Space Combat Variant

I'd be happy being able to store a tad more than a Freelancer MAX if I had a some extra fire-power on the back... that said, I'd also be willing to give up firepower from the belly to cover the back.

Wait wait, you would give up 350ish or more cargo just for a little more firepower? Why on earth are you looking at a Hercules which is a large scale cargo ship by nature it just doesn't make sense to me to want a ship of this size to run cargo equivalent to a Max lol. Max = 122 cargo vs C2 = 624 or a M2 = 468. Sounds to me like you want a gun ship with a little cargo room haha.
Don't get me wrong I have an M2 myself to me its going to be my main if the game ever gets released lol. I am willing to bet before its over that Crusader adds something a little more up your alley in this dept if your not happy with the Hercules.
Well to put my comment more in context I didn't know how much space it held off the top of my head vs the Max. I grabbed the A2 because I wanted the fire-power, knew the C2 and M2 weren't what I was looking for. So to be fair, I'd give up some cargo space for some fire-power on top, or like I said move some of the lower guns to the top to provide equal coverage. I basically want a gun-ship with some cargo capacity, not C2 or M2 levels for sure, but I want the ship to have the lines of a Crusader Industries inside and out.
So you are saying you want a Crusader Industries style ship with full coverage instead of ground focused coverage that can carry some cargo.
Don't have any issue with that being a new ship but not seeing and would honestly, would be a little upset if they changed the Hercules to be this. In the meantime it really does sound like you are looking for a ship very much like the Hammerhead if not for its styling.
Yeah basically, but I mean to be honest, I'd be happy with the A2 if they stuck one size four or five on the top and left the rest alone. Even with ground bombing runs what's to stop a HH or Polaris from attacking me from above. If I had a big, slow gun that could at least fend them off a little it would be helpful. In space it's not hard to rotate the ship but I dislike the overwhelming blind-spot and don't see how covering that would hurt anything.
I'm also not looking for them to necessarily change the A2 and take away its current role, to be honest a 4th variant would be great with the changes I'm talking about.
To be honest, if a Polaris is targeting a Hercules it would just be best for everyone involved if the Hercules rolled over and let the Polaris have its way.
Well again you prolly wont see a Hercules doing bombing runs solo anyways, if there is bombing going on its most likely going to be a larger scale battle unless your bored and are just going out bombing stuff for the hell of it but it wouldn't take long for a group of players to gather and take you out anyways lol. I really think most of these ships and the game itself is built and designed for multiplayer/co-op experience outside of dogfighting and some pirate actions and maybe some gathering professions etc... most people will be rolling with additional help whether its escort ships or fleet duty soloing is not the primary objective of SC. So a ship designed for bombing runs or offloading tanks will most likely have cover above them this is why they designed the guns the way they are I personally don't mind moving a gun/turret to cover the top or maybe give an option to do that but me personally if I am doing anything combat wise with an Hercules it wont be alone.

I would definitely be flying with a group when I can, but also taking into mind people's schedules etc and that my A2 will take 8 to fully crew, I'm sure there'll be instances where I'll be in the thing without any additional cover. As for bombing runs, I'm not much of a griefer(sp) so unless there's a mission to bomb an NPC base that can be done with a single ship and its crew, I'll be in space with the thing when I can be.
Same! I've been playing MMOs since 2002, EQ, EQ2, SWG, WoW, CoH, LoTRO, SWTOR... the list goes on. Looking at the PTU last night and seeing the customization options for my 325a, makes me hope I can buy that big gun for the roof of my A2 some day. I couldn't get my ship to load in after doing the modifications to it, but I'll be doing a video and posting a screen shot soon.
