All these publishers pushed the boundaries a bit too far.

The backlash the gaming community gives them is a wake up call to change or die.

Thank goodness for companies like CD Projekt Red and CIG who are still making the magic!

I'm past pre-ordering anything anymore. Don't care what "perks" I get on a broken game on release.
The gaming industry leaders are broken.
As Montoya wrote, it's only CDPR and CIG and maybe some other small indie studios who are pushing boundaries in the right direction for the industry.
Though I'll have to see how Cyberpunk turns out to keep that opinion.

Did anyone actually read the article all the way through? I'm not taking sides, but the guy just wants to keep things realistic from the sounds of the quotes. Ask any dev, any real developer of a game and they will tell you it's not all fun and games.

Remember when people in CIG were getting their feelings hurt because Chris Roberts was being too hard on them for not sharing in his dream?

I do love how quick everyone is to bash and slander executives with "greedy" and other negative insults. Anyone else notice how he wants to experiment with games via bypasses the consoles? Good on him for trying new things.

I would say that I quit pre-paying for games, but the truth is that I actually just shifted from paying early from other games to paying for beautiful ship jpegs for SC & SQ42. By the end of this year I'll be a Space Marshal. So I clearly haven't stopped. I did however find a "support group" of like minded individuals that are also interested in my current favorite game. LoL

I could say: "In our defense we are not pre-ordering, we are funding development" but I know there are plenty of backers who didn't read the T's and C's when they pledged and didn't understand that although their motive was to place a pre-order that's not what they were handing their money over for, even though they ticked the box to say they understood the terms of the contract.

I know because I was one of them - I thought I was just pre-ordering a game I wanted that hadn't even been made yet that no studio would fund, and that it would take as long as it takes to get it...

So now with my understanding of how SC works it'd be easy for me to say "I don't pre-order games" because technically I don't... But in reality my top-hat and monocle? They may say otherwise.

But it is a smashing hat.

I personally know developers and they enjoy making games and would hate to have the fun taken out of it, its all perspective. Do you enjoy someone taking the fun out of it by making you a mindless robot that does what its told and cant talk to higher ups because you are a peon or do you enjoy having input, feedback, and the ability to communicate with the entire staff on an equal basis. Its all perspective. He also mentions keeping people in depression etc. words mean things.

While I understand your perspective of this, I have a feeling that whoever wrote the article, (much like any journalist or writers do) perhaps took some of the words out of context. I dont believe any good businessman (or woman) would openly mention stuff like this, especially to the press.
