So, I melted my Gladiator for a Vanguard (I'll get a Gladiator in game, anyways), but I can now carry Torps! Also, deep space, long range!

My Vanguard will be named "The Aiur", so I can give my life for it.

Okay so I also am getting some Vanguards for us.

A few questions.. how do the shields work? So confused. Anyone know? One redundant "2" Shield?

What kinda torps can these carry?

Are these like Avengers or Dauntlessness from WWII? What are they akin to?

Who is interested in Tactical stuff? We need some good tacticians and Officers or whatever. @Commander Kip and @MerchantMarine I know are both proficient and I urge you two to work together and take on some leadership roles.

Based on wild guessing and jack daniels fueled "science", I'd wager the shields work as normal (I.E. only one is on at a time), but if one is destroyed, the other will fire up to provide continued covereage. The torpedoes look to be about gladiator-size, so smaller than a 'tali's, and larger than a missile.

The dauntless/avenger is not a bad comparison, but these are "officially" inspired by the p-38 lightning, a long range fighter, hence the long duration setup and part of the reason for redundant equipment. Again, nothing official here, but I'd wager the overall design is inspired by the P-38, and then other aspects of its concept are pulled form other craft, like WW2 naval torpedo bombers (Turret gunner and torps) and the A-10 (redundant systems, known for getting BTFU and making back) or the f-15 (once flew back to base missing a wing).

My guess is a hemispherical shield system, where one shield covers one side of the ship, the second shield covers the other side. Or front and back, etc.

Or, conversely, a main and a backup shield that run in tandem: "Outer shield, inner shield", so they're both always on, but one has its field minimized so as not to interfere with the main shield.

Well it seems like I'll be getting a Vanguard, so I'd be happy to join the first wave of our Bomb Sqwadron!

@SlumLord's call for additional officer's/tacticians interests me greatly, we'll see as time moves forwards

For the shield on the vanguard, i see a real possibility for 2 different shields being loaded onto the craft. One for sustained lazer fire, the other for missiles. Is be interested in command but i wasn't too see how things shake out in general in the next 2 years.

So, Do we have any ideas for a patch? slogan? hierarchy? lo-erarchy? Do we have a mission statement? Should we not have a common sig? A list of official pilots? Inquiring minds need to know. This is the official bombing thread after all, so I am gonna kick off the hard core drunken thought process that leads to an awesome final product.

I'd like to suggest the slogan "Blowing up where no one has blown up before." Well, thats kind of a mission statement also. Well kinda a mission statement for the whole of TEST.

@Commander Kip and @MerchantMarine are the Official Leaders of this group of misfits. At least that is what I am hearing from the two of them. I could just be drunk and making shit up, as I do that from time to time.

I'm planning on buying a Retaliator next time it comes on sale and I absolutely want to bomb the shit out of something.
If for any reason, I don't get around to buying one pre-PU then I'm 100% for Escort or Gunner duty.
Bombs fo lyfe.

EDIT: I just bought a Vanguard so theres also that...

Hello Comrades!

Chairman Meow is to thank for pointing me here, I'm quite excited to be apart of Test and look forward to the great Vanduul purge... I am a big fan of this forum already, should this question have been asked, please ignore the following as I will be reading through the rest of this thread later. The thought of World War II style bombardment groups has me incredibly interested, I've played a fair bit of War Thunder and I feel that game really nailed areal combat. Are the tactics/strategies used globally applicable once applied in space and if not, how do they differ?

I have an Aegis Vanguard with lifetime insurance that is just itching for some combat however I did not see this ship listed on Bomb Squadrons needed vessels request. Is this ship worthy of our mission and if so, what will her primary roles be?

One way missions are my favorite missions.
Can fly escort/mini torpedo-er in my Vanguard. Also, very willing to crew wherever needed.
If the opportunity to board a Kingship presents itself I'll have a red shirt ready.

If we ever get to board a kingship, I volunteer myself as a torpedo boarder a la FTL!
