I read this just as I was going to take a bite out of a piece of buttered toast. It made me look.

As a Merchantman owner who really liked the original concept art; Changes are a fact of life and are often driven by more functional needs. Many folks dislike how smooth the Carrack looks now. I'm betting they had to simplify the hull a bit to save on performance. Her fat ass is probably due to the fact they needed to fit a shit-ton of rooms, and the cockpit is probably set up to use existing animation assets. The Carrack is never going to live up to everyone's expectations at once, and delaying it now for small things like those being mentioned it will create a precedent that will further slow the pace of the project as a whole. It may not look exactly like the ship you theorycrafted in your head, but it's damn sure capable of everything they advertised.
That was well said from my perspective. Not that it's hard to say something a better way than I can, but you captured exactly how I feel about it.

Listen here bub, I PROMISE you the Anvil Carrack will be best ship in the game because people on Spectrum told me so.
It's got a hangar bay so it's a pocket carrier, checkmate Polaris and Kraken get out of here.
It's got a medical bay so it's basically equal to any other medical ship apparently. Checkmate Cutlass Red, Apollo, and Endeavor.
It's got some repair stuff so fuck off outta here Vulcan, you piece of garbage.
It's an explorer ship and has to be the best one so it invalidates everything else.
It's got armor and its MILSPEC so it's gotta be a combat ship too, I bet that all the guns have been upsized to Size 5 and it'll swat fighters out of the sky. Basically invalidates the Hammerhead too because the Hammerhead doesn't have all the other cool stuff the Carrack does.
And if ANY of that isn't true then I will PERSONALLY go on Spectrum and rage about CIG LIED, CARRACK DIED or something along those lines.
(heavy dose of sarcasm above, but I see people literally saying this like this)
Whilst the unfinished ship did not look that great (it has a fat arse (yes that's without me on-board) I do not feel it is appropriate to complain about lack of progress (which I think is completely justified) and then at the same time ask them to redo stuff. I think its unfair to do straight to release ships to whilst others are waiting for their ships. There are many ships with problems and they cannot even stick to the current scheduling.
There are at least two alternatives, the Connie Aquila (yeah right) and the 600i (again already sold because of its terrible implementation). Maybe the drake corsair will work but no idea whether it can sense anything at all. The terrapin has an additional chair taking up the whole of the interior!

Well count me as one of the folks who does not like the smooth exterior, I really hope Owl is right and they will add some character back in prior to release.
I was not happy with elements of the Connie redesign but it grew on me, I loved the Penguin redesign and consider it my favorite ship for now - the Mustang redesign however turned me off completely, I now hate my Beta (my original starter) and Delta and no longer fly them as a result, may even melt them.
Like many, the Carrack is THE ship for me, small enough to crew with NPC's if necessary, big enough to take some friends, and with the Ursa and Pisces and decent cargo capacity, a fantastic cross between the Rocinante, Eagle Transporter, Serenity, and even the Enterprise - I'd wait another few months for them to get it more 'right' but it is probably just down to personal taste and expectations now - the inside looks amazing and, especially after the CitizenCon demo I have faith the game mechanics will eventually be there.
We'll see come February....

It looks like they put a Merlin on the rear ramp?
I thought this comes with a rover, but I didn't see one. Looks like they wanted to show us the Merlin will fit?

TBH they just need to start getting these older ships out the bloody door - it will never be perfect for everyone, you can never please the rabble - just build it get it out and let us fly it so we can give some actual constructive feedback, then come back to it a year or 2 later.

Just a reminder that the 890J has most of that, but does so while looking sleek. ;p
That's an Archimedes snub ship acting as a fill in for the Pisces because it hadn't been revealed at the time they made that video.
That Merlin is in the hangar at the top and the rover ramp is in the front belly as far as I now there is no rear ramp tho that would be cool ;)

Seriously though, why not just build the inside of a ship that the player interacts with, toss it out to the avacados or concierge club to run around in and say "yup, that works" and then worry about the outside afterwards?

Nah, nah, nah. . .look again peeps. Time index 4:58. Yes, that is not the Merlin but rather the Archemedes. But look at the frame of the shot. That was taken from outside of the ship, facing a ramp.
I get what Mich is saying. . .the ramp is in front; but that is a ramp. We are NOT looking down into the hangar. We're looking up the ramp. That means this can fit two ships.
At least. . .looks that way to me.
