I believe you had said something about flying backwards in atmo to maintain that distance, am I right or was I missing something else you were trying to tell me?

Yeah, the point of flying backwards is to maintain distance and keep guns on target, but the Gladius will try to close the distance, so not only flying backwards, keeping guns on target, but also use up / down / left / right strafe to create an arc.
