Interesting read. Seems like they have fixes in the works for some of the network issues. And yeah, def. going AMD for the cores.

8c/16T Intel MB+CPU = $800 or so (and that's microcenter pickup price and bundled) Compared to AMD 8c/16T R7 1700 combo for $400. Yes, the intel cpu is 28% faster but at double the cost. And if I go with Microcentert's current sale, can grab the 1800x combo for $100 more and only have the Intel be about 18% faster overall, but with CIG stating they are going Vulkan, AMD is set up well to run that stuff, Intel, unsure of.

My rig, AMD FX 6300, 6 core, 3.5 gHz, now 20GB DDR3, AMD R7 360 2GB (slight OC using Afterburner) was getting a solid 10-15 FPS this afternoon when I was making my trading runs to earns me some monies.

I keep thinking about a new graphics card but if I can hit this with currently unoptimized code, etc., with the occasional server limited 3 and below FPS, then I'll wait another year and get a more modern rig when SQ42 comes out around end of '18 (my estimate).

And what dedication for Chris to be on the forum on Christmas freaking Eve - that is really cool.

Now I know mines overkill but I build computers to last 8 years or more and this is only a year old. I do not have issues with running star citizen but I hope they can optimize it a lot more because I know a lot of people experiencing the same issues as mentioned and it’s even worse without a ssd being used I’m talking five mins to load the game issues. My rig is a intel core i7 5820k 3.3ghz, Asus x99, ram 32gb ddr4 2666 MHz, Gtx 1080 8gb, samsung 850 evo 250gb ssd.

"On the serialized variable / object culling that is in progress and we should have a first pass in for the next full release in March"

March isn't that far away. If they can stick to that ETA, we could be seeing good fps in 2-3 months.

Usually, one of the last things they do in game development is optimize code. Not saying it doesn't happen while the write it, but usually it is an actual focus towards the end from what I have been told.
I completely agree with you it just sucks for some people I know who invested $ into the project and there mid tier pc’s are struggling bad to play it. It even seems some higher end pc’s are struggling judging from what I read on the forums and so forth.

I have a 1060 right now, and typically get about 10-15 fps now (more when the server is fresh, degrades over time to 10-15), and I keep telling myself the same thing...hold out longer for a new video card!

In my case, I have a 5 year old, repurposed workstation...the CPU was killer at the time, but just isn't as up to the task as a more modern CPU would be. I too am going to hold out another year or so for a new rig.

And yes...this is dedication, how many CEO's of gaming companies were posting and responding to player's messages on a Sunday! let alone Christmas Eve!

My 4690k @4500 MHz does pretty well. Last time I Always had solid 15-25 fps. Sometimes up to 30 FPS. Which makes me think that probably raw CPU Power is still better than multiple cores.

I have a GTX 1080 right now and get the same performance. I am hearing those with more cores than me (4t/4c) are doing much better.

RIght now I am waiting for people with gaming machines 5+ years old starting to bitch how their "high end gaming" machine can't run it.

I have a 6700k with 32GB and a 1080ti. Overall it runs 25-30 FPS. The GPU matters when running higher resolutions. Right now I'm at 6400x1440 very high graphics. Before the 1080ti I had a 970. It only could handle 2560x1440 at 20-25 FPS.

Try to run full screen with lower resolution and check what happens with FPS

I believe this too. I am running a fairly new i7-7820HK,admittedly only at 2.9 GHz, and a GTX 1080, and I commonly get about 10 -15 fps occasionally dropping to 5 - 6 fps. I think that right now raw CPU speed makes the biggest difference but be careful if you plan to upgrade your system... eventually the code will be tuned to take better advantage of multiple cores and GPU processing power.

FWIW, Afterburner shows my FX6300's 6 cores running ~50-75% with a very even split where my GPU is 90-100% most of the time. I see the biggest lags when mem usage gets close to the 20GB I have installed OR when pings exceed 150-200ms.

i7 3820 with 4 cores + HT @3.6 Ghz, 32 GB of quad channel RAM @1600 Mhz, gtx 970 4GB (I think) and a OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD dedicated to SC all on a 300 Mbps internet connection with a 52 ms ping to speed test servers in Seattle where the Amazon servers are.

I'm getting FPS in the 20's and slowness spikes every couple of minutes that last a second or two. Very tolerable. Not bad for a 5.5 year old system (minus the upgraded graphics). It's ancient by computer standards, ha.

Things I'm working towards: i9 7920x, 32 GB of RAM @2666, same graphics, and an Intel Optane 900 SSD 280 GB dedicated to SC.

So far I have the SSD and I'm buying the processor tomorrow. Just need to buy the motherboard and ram :)

RAM is gonna hurt.
