My first multiplayer experience in Splinter Cell was a fun but difficult one. My friend and I were trying to complete the first mission without being spotted. We failed the very easy first area over and over again, each time with the NPC director telling us to keep a low profile.

We tried being sneaky and spent 2 hours tring to avoid the guards and another hour trying to take them out. Each time a camera would spot us or a guard would randomly hear us and turn around.

"And keep a low profile" is the only advice that we had. After the 200th time, my friend snapped. "Low profile? Low profile! Looooooow prooooooooofile!" He screamed at the TV as he raced towards the nearest guard in full sprint. In a panic, I tried to help my friend by pulling out tlmy silenced pistol and shooting 2 of the guards that turned around from the sound of him stabbing that first guard to death.

Luck must have been with us that day because we weren't spotted. We then proceeded to complete the level as though it was Counter Strike. "Looooow prooooofile!" We'd shout while sprinting.

Surprisingly, we just shot everyone in the head and beat the level without being spotted. Those pistols only have 2 mags total and you can't get more ammo. Every guard died, no alarms activated, and 2 very happy Spec Ops people made it through a very easy first level for the first time.

So when people say Spec Ops, all I can think about is that I need to "keep a low profile" and I'll be fine.
Haha, I see we'll be practicing keeping a low profile then: shields maxed, guns hot, running full afterburner with the stereo blasting.
Coverts Ops = Go Exploring, Trading, CityBoppin & BarHoppin and mind my own business.

See, Covert.......
My above comment, with ol' Cosmic's flying bar running hot beside us. For libations. And women. Keeping a low profile is thirsty work.
Hmmmm..........
I was bored and in a semi shitposting mood.. so

Haha, spy vs spy. Loved those old Mad comics.
I just know that in the end we have to blame everything on Russians. It's seams to be the theme of these days....
Or VirtualAss. He seems to be responsible for everything. Everything bad that is.

Here's something to practice right now with in-game ships and FPS weps: 2 Hoplites jump into Koreah(or anything else you want to use as an objective, could be an offline comm array) a few thousand meters from the "objective", the Hoplites deploy their troops and jump out again. The troops EVA to the target and commence to wreaking havoc. At Koreah, first we kill everyone there and disable any ships(by climbing in and ejecting), because I don't think we can destroy them with FPS weps. At an offline comm array, the objective could be to keep it offline as long as possible. The Hoplites jump in, disgorge their troops, and jump out(when they jump out, the nine tails pirates will leave)leaving a dozen or so heavily armed Testies lurking about waiting for some poor schmuck to pop in, battle the pirates and move in to reset the array. When he does, we light him up and get rid of his ship. All comms on Discord, nothing on the in-game chat. These are the only scenarios I can think of where you wouldn't incur a crime stat. If you're not worried about that, then there is no limit to where you can raise hell, Covalex, Grim Hex, the ICC missions, wherever! I would suggest a time limit of 45 min-1 hour, Then bring in a heavily escorted something or other for exfil(NOT Hoplites!)If things start getting too hot, we silently fall back to a rendezvous point and call for evac. The only problem I have is our names floating over our heads, is there any way to turn that off?
Can't wait till I can replace "Hoplite" with my Prowler......Love me some sneakin'

So many great ideas don't know how to add more, I do like the idea of doing some covert-ops mission together with any of you at any time so I am all in for almost anything in the game :D
But then!

Isn't that what we do best in TEST, we don't try we just do it and if it work oORAH!
if it don't we laugh drink some or a lot of beer and laugh some more then do it all over again maybe that time we succeed..
Or we move on and do something else crazy...

:beers:

I'm definitely more sneaky when i'm drunk!!
(all claims based solely on my limited perception while intoxicated and are in no way indicative of any objective testing)

this is the profession covert ops, normally we should do here asassin jobs, and coorp espionage.

-to spy out another coorp, youll have to set up rules for your gameplay. always be nice to the enemys coorp members until they mob you out of the coorp.
-ofc never say something about spying, or pirating.
-you ll get through a heavy interrogation during application process, maybe your mind may change in some important things. come back, and have a talk then to get you back on the ground.
-play the game, record everything in mind
-if you collected data, be sensitive, what you say to each coorp, you dont know who maybe tracks you already.
-always hail our glorious leader, never double spying

I've thought of 2 possible tactics for assaulting enemy positions. 1 in space such as a station and the other on the ground.

Space Station Covert Assault: My Redeemer (and others if required) fully loaded with crew and marines jumps to a preset nav beacon deployed from a stealth ship outside scanner range but close enough to maybe take 10 minutes to get to the target at max cruise speed. We jump in, burn to max speed in the direction of the target then shut EVERYTHING down and rely on suit oxygen and travel towards the target ballistic style. Like a bullet covered in guns, filled with more people with guns...more DRUNK people with guns (this is TEST after all). Just before we become geography and splatter all over the hull of said station go full power and burn to a landing zone. Marines GTFO and storm the station command centre giving anyone inside some extra orifices and dump the atmosphere/turn off the gravity. Rest of fleet jumps in, mops up any spacecraft meant to defend the station, while the marines hold position and the landing ships generally create as much havoc as possible on the landing bays/pads while station tries to marshal its defence forces.

Ground Installation Covert Assault: My Redeemer (and others if required) fully loaded with crew and marines enters atmo or otherwise approaches target from over the horizon. When it about treetop level, points the nose in the direction of the base and hits max burn at it keeping as much terrain between it and the base as possible. If there are mountain ranges around all the better, (possible role for recon vehicles and scout craft to map possible approaches). With 2, 2 man sniper/spotter (with an emergency railgun because fuck the enemy) teams inserted via a small stealthy ship that can hold a Cyclone drive to a nearby elevated position and go on overwatch of the target base in a nice shaded place where the beers won't get warm. Redeemer screams in, drops of marines then provides CAS while marines disable comms/defences if possible, all, again while giving anyone they find more perforations than a dart board. While this is going on a couple of Prowlers or Retaliators with troop bays boom in and disgorge the rest of the assault force while some Gladiators with dumbfire rocket pods and GR equipped Super Hornets come to relieve the landing ships.

Home in time for tea and medals...and beer, lots and lots of beer.

Lads and Lasses,

I've noticed that we now have a plethora of new groups to invest our Auroras into. This makes my pants tight. Among those is 'Covert Ops'. Don't mind if I do.

Now, everyone has different ideas of what covert ops is, so I'd like to get the juices flowing, and see what y'all think about different types of missions, as well as what ships you think you'd be using?

Ideally this thread would be in the group itself, but I see that we can't yet post threads to the forum.

Cheers TESTies,

Owl
isn't covert ops a mission for us to sneak into other orgs and replace their beer with water?

So there are sort of stealth ships, and the new raven maybe even more so, are there any stealth armour suits in game in any form? Not sure I have seen anything. The key issue with covert missions is who is the "target", will this be shadowrun i.e. running against companies? Missions against different races (sort of hard to be that covert), or just covert being another name for pirate?

If the mechanics are in place it could be lost of fun trying to complete things without blowing them up. Not very test though.

I'd be more interested in Special Operations than Covert Operations.

While Convert Operations are a form of Special Operations, it is really only a very small part of it.

So I'm talking more of TAKING ships, bases, or Precious Cargo (PC) from enemies and pirates by hitting them in a way or location they do not expect.

Storyboard:
We find out someone has a unique distillery that makes an exceedingly rare and delicious ale, and they have it setup in a base on a remote moon.

Since they're clearly not sharing it with us the only acceptable course of action is to send in a 'small' multifaceted assault that accomplishes the following:
  • Neutralize their orbital defenses
  • Neutralize their 'air' defenses
  • Neutralize their ground defenses
  • Provide Close Air Support (CAS)
  • Provide Combat Search And Rescue (CSAR)
  • Secure the PC (distillery)
  • Extract the PC and all assets before reinforcements can arrive
We'd then enjoy the distillery and even possibly consider returning it after it breaks down from excessive use (we can always take it again after they've repaired and upgraded it.)

I have never been to this area of the forum before so HERE I AM

Now the thing with covert ops in such a big org is.... who the hell is a spai and will totally give us up to others?

I think some Test mods and glorious leader himself will need to pick some chosen souls up that he can trust with such spoopy missions

But if we are picked to do cool infiltration missions disrupt fleets hell yeah ill work my god dam hardest to be apart of it!

I just want to be there for the ORG wars to come directing a squad of talis to a ground target or quickly taking people out on a javelin we infiltrated

I was twiddling around with the idea of a a small hit team in a humble cutlass Sure your eclipse and and prowler are dangerous but if your spotted then your done for too, sometimes you need the hide in plain sight option

SO one cutlass two dragonflies one pilot and 4 scouts for the flies

Cutlass chugs along doing its thing and the dragonfly slip out and deal with their targets you could give the two guys on the back sniper rifles or rail guns park up shoot what you need to zoom away back to the cutty and the great thing about this is it works in and out of atmo day and night due to the dragonfly size.

Also attacking something like an idris or a jav having the firepower of a dragonfly in the hanger bay and a quick escape option too if we decide to blow the place!
