Vanguard is not an explorer.
You think just because you can slap on a tractor beam and if you have long range capability, that you are an explorer ship now?
Think he means its a long range escort fighter for exploration ships. A Carrack isn't going to be able to defend a whole convoy, going to need escorts and hornets aren't going to be able to dock anywhere.

Why would a Carrack, Orion, Reclaimer need an escort?
They all operate off the beaten track, in deep space where no fighter can ever follow.

Besides, pirates will be after Hull series anyhow.
THEY 100% need an escort flotilla (especially Hull-E)

Orion: ORE,.. yeah right, you will want to attack that monster and haul ore back with you. That drilling laser will snap your ship in half like a twig.
Reclaimer: SCRAP and trinkets from relics,.. yeah right, you will want to attack that monster and haul scrap back with you. And it has so many countermeasures and defense, you will wear out way before it does.
Carrack: who the hell knows what (artifacts? if any) it carries. Why would a pirate attack a Carrack anyways? It is a waste of your fuel if you want to go out and search for Carrack, never knowing if you would bring anything back home.

Yes thank you, that's what I was saying. We do not know what we will run into and I personally don't want everyone to be screwed over because we found an enemy out there. I am betting exploring teams will be targets and easy targets at that, and I rather make us an unappetizing one.

When I played EvE we made a fortune pirating explorers. We would track them down, and simply wait while they would do the hard work such as tracking signatures, unlocking secure containers, etc etc. While they worked we bull shitted and drank. They wrapped up ops and we would come in and be pirates. Explorers think they are safe because they are off the beaten path, they lack defenses, they are just a fat perfect target.

Another thing is PvE. You guys want that scythe, that fat ass glaive? The Vanduul are nomadic and know the wormholes well according to lore. You are going to need a explorer to track those targets, and the trackers will defenders. You never know what will be in the void, could be a bengal carrier could be cthulu. Every jump is a risk from all fronts, enviroment, pirates, AI, crew members, all are potential threats.

I dont think people understand what a pirate does. They do not go up and simply destroy a ship. There is a finesse to being a good pirate. I am going to have to write up a thread about it.

I agree, exploring makes us vulnerable from both pirates and just what we encounter, I mean personally I hope we find new aliens! And they may or may not be friendly haha. And I have been working up strategies and procedures for such things as when first entering and exiting a jump, scanning things such as an asteroid field that echoes and mirrors a lot. There are many things we will need to know or learn over time to make sure we are relatively safe.

I'm assuming when it gets closer to release we could find out more about how this deep space exploration will work and then we can start assigning crews. Wouldn't it be a good idea to get a list of what ships people have available and start building say, beta crews?
Something like a list of ships in a group, the crew who is willing to man said ships (along with backup crew) and what positions they wish to try or work and even perhaps equipment for each ship as it comes available? I know this thread is collecting people who randomly say "THAT WOULD BE AWESOME I WANT BEER!" but when it comes down to it, could we get a live list going of who is in and who is not?

I do actually have a list with people and their ships. Pretty much anyone that said nice and solid they want to come has been put on the list so when we can do something they can be reached haha

Any way you can make a public link in google docs or something and post the link at the top of a thread?
The plan was to make a public one once we were closer to something playable and could get more concrete confirmations of who's interested. But most on the list are in this thread if you want to see who's interested and what kind of ships they have.

I've got a 315p, Lancer MAX for any fast/discreet cargo we may find, Hull B for those big hauls (if we are lucky) and last but not least I bring a willing member ready to crew ships.
