This is why I joined TEST. I like how this org is laid back most of the time, when nothing serious is happening, but for the most part we know when to cut the bullshit and really communicate while still being respectful. Because of this I consider TEST to be a "serious" org--we just know where to draw the line.

Usually the best course of action is to disengage - what discussions we have here will not influence CIG's decisions on whether or not to implement a killboard or killmail system. Just because someone has the "last word" in a discussion, doesn't mean they're actually right.
Nobody is under any illusion that having a discussion ona separate private forum would have any bearing on what CIG implements into their game it was more the fact that some people didnt want to discuss it and trolled in a serious thread instead of simply not opening their fucking mouths.

It has nothing to do with CIG as the Killboards are up and will likely stay up. My point was in regards to TEST's standing and utilizing the killboard. But yeah, the last word doesn't mean a thing - unless it is an effort to undermine the subject at hand, which it has.

True, and while the leadership is loath to start swinging the banhammer over it, the shitposters're only doing one thing to themselves: weakening their own credibility. When you deliberately get into arguments for argument's sake, you're more likely to get stuck with scrub roles in TEST. :\

If I may make a point. The reason why I and (I theorize) other people are being more silly at this point in time is because there's really no game to talk about seriously. I believe it's fairly absurd to be talking about roles and organization on cap ships (say Idris and above) when we have only the faintest idea about how they're going to function. Or even how organizations will function inside the PU.
I can imagine making some vague plans about how it might be nice to organize some things, but trying to plan anything even partially concrete beyond that is an exercise in futility right now. I am fully capable of being mature but sometimes I am completely baffled by how in-depth the discussions get in chat based on the information currently available to us.

Anyway, I mostly just ignore those conversations, so that's fine.

Also, I don't think anyone is actually seriously contemplating flying a Pegasus into a star. It's a somewhat overused joke. I wasn't even completely sure that we were going to fly a Bengal into the sun.

I think 99.9 % of TEST members know where that line is. But it's that .1 % that I'm worried about. Because all it takes is a few asshats to create a very negative atmosphere.

Never looked at it that way. Still, banning wasn't even on my mind but a simple reminder that we are all on the same team might help.

To a certain degree I agree. But the Killboard is a reality and it is up. And I do believe it is an excellent recruiting tool. But most importantly I still believe how much time you spend in AC increases your abilities as a pilot, regardless of the mechanics and people whining about stolen kills. These are all things that we can focus on now. And why not? Because some people hate the Killboard? Because they are so worried about their standings that they want to sabotage any effort to promote the corp? Hell, I suck but I want to support those that don't. It's called letting go of your ego and being a team player. But sure, there are a lot of things that are in the air as far as the PU is concerned. But that doesn't mean we all can't utilize Arena Commander in the meantime and set goals, because it is never too early to home in on piloting skills and promote the corp.

Yeah, that was mostly in regards to cap ship and high level organization stuff. I don't care too much about killboards myself, if anyone wants to try and get high up on there, that seems like it should be fine.

Really? Ever ask why 'This Is Why Killboards Matter' is constantly near the top of forums with 111 replies? It's because a certain group of asshats don't agree with the subject matter so they do what they can to derail the discussion; which presently is seeing who can post last. OK, if the subject matter is say 'Banana peels on the Hangar floor - a good thing or bad thing?' then sure, go to town. But on a subject regarding Killboards and how they can be effective for promoting the corp and improving piloting skills? That is so asinine I can't even bother anymore, and no doubt that was probably their intent. This is not productive and mature on any front. Moreover, it only feeds in-corp animosity and polarizes people into different camps. And who really thinks pissing off fellow corp members is a good idea? I mean really, with fleets of expensive ships on the line! Ever hear the expression 'Lose lips sink ships?' And trust me that happens in EVE all the time. Fortunately I am not a lose lip kind of guy but I can safely say I won't be rushing to aid these asshats in the PU. So what is the point of allowing people to run amok in forums and piss other members off? Do you really think it will all turn out in the end? Sorry, I have my doubts and have to say if it wasn't for Montoya (and his Phoenix full of babes of course) I would probably pack up and leave. But maybe things will get better, on the forums at least. We shall see.
I am actually on the side of kill boards being useful. But before I ever got to your thread we're referencing and derailed it (yes intentionally. No, not to piss people off. To lighten the mood. I saw more anger as the posts went on.) you and a few other parties had already exhausted all sides of the argument/discussion and were repeating the same things over and over and over again. Not to mention that there were some poisonous side comments thrown in. Now it's just a joke that people can have fun in.

I truly apologize for hurting your butt and hijacking your thread, but I really thought there was nothing left to say. I made a joke and expected it to end, or my post to be ignored as per the usual.

Internet bro hug?

Fair enough. But if there is nothing else to say then don't say anything. I don't mind debate but yes sometimes the point has been put through the grinder and done with. When that happens I leave. Or, and perhaps this maybe duplicitous on my part, I leave as to not supply more oxygen to people trolling or simply making an asshat of themselves. This is why you do not see me adding a comment in the last 10 or so on that particular thread even though it is my own post. And I do look at my post as my home and naturally feel protective of it; I think everyone, or at least most, feel the same about their own posts whether they admit it or not. Sadly though I am now using NKato's home (sorry about the long distance calls NKato) until the squatters have left the building. That or I come up with better metaphors.

If the game is composed of people like you, I think it'll turn out just fine. That's actually one of the first things I look at when I find a competitive game: are the players focused on simply getting kills/stats, or are they interested in actually helping the team? I love games like TF2 for exactly that reason: people don't care how many kills they get. As long as you help the team and don't focus on only getting kills, you're being a credit. Sure, there are some asshats that will bitch about KDRs, but if you ignore them, you'll find yourself having a lot more fun. And isn't that what a game is about?

To NKato's original post:
Obviously, we can't theorize about the actual bridge setup of a capitol ship. But I'd like to see the backbone organization done first, such as member lists, crew sheets, and general dogfighting strategies. The more we do now(that's within reason to actually discuss), the less we'll be scrambling to do at the start of the PU.

Really, I couldn't agree more with what you're saying. Thanks for posting this.

On a side note to Capital ship srs bsns, do ya'll think it would be appropriate at this point so far in the PU to maybe start the basic groundwork for some, for lack of a better word, "sub-orgs" or player groups?

Not like "OKAY MY NAME IS SQUEAKY AND I AM THE HEAD OF THE ESCORT FIGHTER GROUP FOREVER AND I WILL ROLE WITH AN IRON FIST", more akin to just a general gauging of interest and a very very basic member roster.

(I'm partly asking because I haven't met many other people who have expressed much of an interest in piracy and wanna see who else might want to. )

If shit hits the fan people will take their internet spaceships seriously for a few hours and place dumbfuckery on the backburner until shit is sorted and super sekret stuff is dealt with ... I'm hoping people realise there is a time and place.
Agreed. Dumfuckery in my experience is reserved for the victory party.
