It will be interesting how they will handle this game mechanic in the PU, what will be the limiter when it comes to the amount of people you can cram into a spaceship? could one solution be that people that aint seated in the spaceship will be ejected when they travel thru an jump point or something? Not being able to move your ship at all if your over the max crew limit? Or will they just say hey, if you can fit 100 people into a freighter then hey go for it, game mechanics may put a stop to this with sharding etc.
they have already said the life support system will only be able to support so many people. it you go over that everyone will begin having a hard time breathing.

Then everyone should keep their space suits on, shouldn't they?

Unless they are going to limit EVA to five minutes or less, the life support argument makes no sense - everyone is wearing a self contained life support system.

EVA suits will not have unlimited air, maybe an hours worth I am guessing, they have not given us hard numbers yet.

There have been contradictory notes on using the max crew numbers to limit how many characters can be aboard and still fly the ship. Theoretically you could stand ten people in the back of an Avenger, but it is max crew 1. It has flown with two people aboard as is attested by the fact one has been boarded and had its NPC pilot killed by the boarder while in space. My guess is they are waiting to put the game mechanic in place and will take a fresh look at every ship's capabilities then. For now the only safe bet is to plan to use dedicated boarding craft for boarding.

So if you have a max of 6, you can support 12 for 2 hours if you split them in to two groups and get the first to drain their tanks while the second lives off ship support, and then swap over to the other team when they are empty. If you can't reach your target in two hours it's probably too far away for online play, your boarding party would be kicked for inactivity after 15 minutes... Even if the EVA tank is 15 minutes that's 30 mins to get to the drop point...

The Prowler can carry more drunk TESTies to the party. Which one holds more beer, though? I agree the sheer firepower of the Redeemer is unmatched, and it is also designed to take a beating. From a piracy perspective, I think the Prowler wins.
To Testies a prowler is simply a mobile barfatorium, which according the Keg of Truth makes it a sacred vehicle

I'm not the stealthiest of people and as has already been pointed out the redeemer isn't the ideal dropship, so I am hoping the Vanguard Hoplite will bridge the gap between the two

One thing Ben has mentioned earlier is that there is going to be no ship that is invisible or not seen on radar. Stealth ships differ in the sense that they have much smaller sigs and are difficult to keep track of. So they can shake of missiles more easily. This being said the hoplite or Reedemer is a better option. If the enemy has packed anti ship ground weapons simply go in with a Polaris, S10 torp the shit out or forts and installments and then release 15-20 ground troops to clean up.

Neither....... Cutlass!!!!!!

JK. Prowler, it's side doors get boots on the ground fast. Look at today's helicopters, the Blackhawk for instance, side doors.

SPORTSWORDS.
So, the way I look at it, each one has its place. Do they know you're coming? Do you need on-station fire support? If so, you're probably better off with the Redeemer; it's heavier armament and beefier shielding make it mean in hostile airspace.

Conversely, if you need to be quiet, don't need fire support, or the threats are only in one direction, the prowler's low sig and heavy directional shields are a big plus. Ultimately, I'd say it would boil down to the nature of the insertion and the conditions on the ground that will dictate which ship would serve best.

IIUC, you will not be able to use ships that merely have enough volume for passengers and load them with troops. If you could do that the Freelancer Max would be hard to beat as a boarding craft but last I heard if you exceed the limits of the craft it will simply not fly. This actually makes sense. How is CIG going to sell dedicated boarding craft when every transport could be used as such? Answer is every transport cannot be used as such.

I think right now, the Redeemer, Retaliator, Hoplite, Prowler and Genesis are the only boarding craft proposed.
The way i would fix this is simply oxygen

Imagine you stick 50 people on a connie

That ship is made for about what 5 people? you would stress the oxygen system so much with 50 people using it up

The way around that then is everyone takes a dedicated oxygen supply and breathes through that,

This hopefully will use up equipment slots to balance it

Indeed, if CIG stipulated that the reason you cannot put 50 people in a ship designed for 4 was that the life support could not manage, you would just have all your marines using their armors' life support. That's not what CIG has said. What they have said is you can't put 50 people in your connie.

Try to keep in mind CIG has very carefully avoided designing and building ships that have too many uses, because they want us all to pay for multiple ships.

hhmmmm belive they have said something about life support before being an issue and trying to find the source maybe a 10 for the chairmen but not 100%

I imagine they will do other things like make a connie drop ship bay or something along those lines
So you can do it with whatever you want just need to spend time and resources on it.

I would be okay with this considering they want to make all ships modular

I mean the cutlass blue for example has a few cells in it 4-6 maybe? i cant remember
so you will be able to get more people in that than the standard 2-3 it should normally take

Or the connie and a ursa rover
Can we stick people in there and use its oxygen?

until we know more on the mechanics of this its very hard to say what would be acceptable numbers for ships then on top of that systems in place to make ships better at it
