Under the assumption that you had the money and other support ships to give you access to the style of gameplay you wanted, which would you choose?

Idris (civilian) and 890J
or
Javelin

My thoughts...neither, but if I did choose one, the 890 and idris combo.

Reasoning...
The Javelin is an org type capital ship. It will require a huge amount of resources to obtain and outfit as the weapons have been removed. It can not land on planets, transport 3 ships or lots of tanks, etc. In general, it’s a big ship that serves mostly as a big target. The idris can carry stuff, fight, land, and comes mostly complete. In addition, the 890 offers almost capital class service in a luxe yacht. While both are targets, they won’t get swarmed immediately by orgs like a jav would. I estimate you would have a minute more time before the swarm started.

My thoughts, these ships are way too high profile to really use without major org support. With support though, I think the Idris/890J offers better flexibility.

What are your thoughts?

I personally prefer the Saurora, 162 Auroras wielded together in the form of a big dinosaur, each one a different room with a different function. It will add at least 4.3 minutes of WTF?!? is that? confusion.

I think it depends a lot on the rest of the fleet. A Javelin flagship would make more sense if you had multiple Idris' already in the fleet. An Idris would make sense if your fleet consisted of other smaller vessels.

Not sure if the 890J would really ever make a good flagship as it's not something you'd want to put in the middle of a fight (not enough offensive power). It's better suited for remote command and control with lots of shielding and speed to get your officers to safety if the battle doesn't go your way.

The Javelin easily for me. Despite being such a rare ship that it will attract attention. It would be a great feeling being in the best ship in-game. It has a far greater amount of firepower and potential for other features with it's modular rooms might help it being slightly financially sustainable, but it's early days on that regard. Either way it's a ship that's going to burn money depending how rewarding in-game missions will be.

I do see your point with the Idris. It will be more financially sustainable, but will still burn money imo. But I don't think an 890 would compliment it well, or make it financially profitable. Unless it can escort A Hull-E. Or smaller transports into high risk/ high reward routes.

However An Indris and Herc A2 combo would be a very capable small fighting force. Well sorted for both space and ground combat. If I couldn't get a Javelin I would go with that.

Theory crafting... Of the two options the Jav or the Idris/890j pair...

Idris and 890 pair, and this is why:

Although the your warship may have been the key to your many victories, nothing, nothing will compare to arriving at the Ceremony of Triumph in an 890J, flanked by your own Idris and a hand picked selection of your most seasoned fellow captains in their own warships.

Yeah, a Javalin is big but does it have presence?

OH I'm pretty sure it has presence. Something on the order of 480 meters of presence... plus any length gained by "rework" it receives in the mean time. Anyone who can operate one successfully, even with minimum crew has a boatload of friends too. But it seems to me the 890J and Idris pair, you could probably operate two ships instead of just a minimal Javelin crew.

Hell. BUY ALL THE SHIPS. Why did I say that? Am I being brainwashed?

My own personal flagship is the Endeavor. Being a heavy science ship it fits with my whole TEST Weapons Research Lab (TWRL) scpeil and with the over-clocking module what Endeavor captain isn't going to OC the nuts off his ship before doing anything else in the game? It's gonna be b-e-a-utiful.

You guys know Im leading the fleet from an Aurora right?
Which one? LX I hope?

The next question is what are you going to call your flagship?

I think it matters what you intend to use the fleet for. Personally if I were going somewhere dangerous, I would prefer a fast fleet with lots of punch, so probably a Polaris/Carrack/StarG ensemble surrounded by a dozen small ships, some of which would run perimeter and others would scout. Really depends a great deal on how many players you have. For even a tiny fleet like this I think you'd want 100 committed players to cover several shifts per day. The requirements on player hours to fly a fleet are much higher than most people realize.

For instance, an exploration fleet might want two hour shifts, and allow people to multi-shift if they like. That's twelve shifts in a day. If you had just these ships you'd need about 20 players/shift, that's 240 players shifts per day. So yeah, you'd want to consider having 300 players for such a thing.

Now imagine big ships requiring more than this many players for a single ship. Flying a Bengal is going to be a huge challenge, but that is what makes it fun. TEST can be better at this than anyone else just given our numbers.

While both options are great in their own rights, If you were to surround @Montoya with enough Auroras that share the same ship skin as him, then they would have an extremely difficult time getting to him in his Aurora flagship. Besides, I'd be willing to bet that he'll have a drunk & passed out @Blind Owl asleep in his ships bed while believing he'd crawled into his own ship.
