I posted this to reddit because I got good feedback from a ton of people to ask on reddit how to approach this idea/project.

The idea is simply
I'd like to gift cosplay helmet to the Devs at the May 4th event
and also provide cosplay helmets to the attendees that wanted them at the event
via community crowdfunding it, at cost, with a quantity cap. Very short and small campaign.

The prop master who's doing them, Hal, has worked for Disney and even worked with Adam Savage before.
He's amazing, he's making my Heavy Marine armor I'm showing up to the event in.

Right now, seems reddit is torn between liking the idea and also not liking the idea.

What do you think?

I believe gifting some nice prop it is great idea, letting people get it at cost and giving some work to a talent is great as well.
I also unfortunately has to agree with the guys who say - it shouldn't be advertised on SC subreddit (not because of you, but because of what will come after eventually).

I have 0 experience with crowd-funding so can't help with actionable advice on "how" (top thing I did was consortium of less than 10 parties). But I definitely wish you good luck.

Well, there's confirmed 6 of us going to the event that will go in either cosplay or just with these helmets.
Even if no one else wants to participate, there's now enough of us to cover a few gift helmets for the devs and we're also bringing some RSI explorer light armor Space Marshal Concierge gold edition Venture Executive helmets (that's a mouthful lol)... to get signed by them.
So now it's just about finding the others that are going to see if they want one so they're not left out.

As far as top hats, ... I can ask Hal.. but he's already volunteering a ton of time and resources. I really feel two options is enough.

Might take a day for youtube to process it as the source was 4K60 HDR.

P.S.
I do know though for real beaver felt hats, I know a guy who hand makes them DBarJ Hats in Las Vegas.. it's a dying art.
But they're super expensive... starting at like $400 to $600 for a handmade beaver felt hat.
Add some plastic or metal work and you got yourself a legit custom future-istic Top Hat...
with a price tag to match :head_bandage::tophat:

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of the inexpensive & light weight plastic top hats in the sort of New Years celebration style that would be all shiny black with faux golden embossing & TEST Squadron insignia on top. That way they would be cost efficient & light weight.
