Welcome! 🍻 :o7:

The DUR would be my first suggestion as well. I'm not a huge fan of the Freelancer aesthetics but it has great firepower and cargo capacity for its size and price point.

The 400i might be an option if you're willing to spend more ($250). It would be even more appealing if you're okay with an X1 for a ground vehicle since the 400i has a hangar for one built into its nose.

Exploration isn't really my jam and I'm not well versed on the exploration capabilities of the 400i. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

Good luck!

Welcome to TEST!

I also have high interest in exploration, it's just that right now there isn't a lot to do in that area. That gives you the possibility to buy a ship that's more able to do multiple things like some combination of trade/missions/combat if any of that is interesting to you, then upgrade to a more exploration based ship later.
Then there are a few options depending on how much you want to spend. I'm personally keeping my options open for the Drake Corsair. As well as being one of the exploration ships, it's also going to be useful in all 3 of trade/missions/combat AND you can fly it with a few friends if you want.

Obviously depends on your budget, flyable now?....I would say 400I. In future I would say Drake Corsair. But since exploration is not in game yet I would suggest working to buy one in game, will give you a nice target to aim for.

Just stick with cutlass black, I'm not a fan of freelancers either

Welcome to Test Squadron Dracionus! Exploration as a game mechanic with any reward besides fun isn’t implemented in Star Citizen yet. There are lots of exploration-focussed ships because early backers (just like more recent ones!) love the idea of exploration as an activity that has some purpose. No word yet on when it is coming, but it’s unlikely to be in the next couple of years.

So, you might want to consider choosing a ship or two that is better for some other activity or profession that is in the game now, like bounty hunting/PvE space combat or mining, or is getting there, like cargo hauling/trading or FPS missions. Or you might consider a ship that can enable you to do those things and will be good for exploration too, when that does eventually get implemented.

Some of us spend waaaay too much on this game in the hope it will be amazing eventually (and it is fun now). But that should not be a requirement to join in the fun now. How much are you willing to spend on space pixels in a game that’s been in Alpha nearly 10 years? $50? $250?
