Good evening,
DShKM here. Just signed up for this seemingly awesome SC community and thought I'd drop a introduction thread here. As I said, name's DShKM [or sometimes DashCam ;)], in reference to the Russian machine gun, for those interested in the origin. I'm from Northern Bavaria/Central Germany, around an hour from Nuremberg.
I had StarCitizen in my sights since early 2016 but never looked further into it until the release of No Man's Sky. Some online friend talked about NMS as if it was the already finished dream of every space pilot out there, but we all know how that went. (I still think it's decent game for what it is, just not my type of game). I figured, if I was ready to drop 60 bucks for NMS, I might as well put that now saved money into trying Star Citizen. I got myself the Aurora starter pack and played a few sessions. I was lucky to join just a few days after 2.5 released so there was a lot of content in the PU to discover.
The experience of learning the at first fairly complicated controls, taking off of Olisar, then getting the Aurora to Cruise speeds, leaving the pilot seat, opening one of the side doors and looking out of it truly stunned me. Seeing the stars fly by while you stand (or in this case crouch in fear of getting clipped through the hull) in your vessel was absolutely amazing and it was the moment I realized this game is exactly what I want, despite it still being in development.
So time went by and I upgraded to an Avenger Titan. Then to a Gladius... then to a Super Hornet until I ended up with a Sabre and an 85x, both of which I still possess.
Even though I'm currently running a Sabre as main vessel, what I'm actually looking forward to is getting myself a Gladius/Sabre for escort missions and a Herald for running data, creating scans of areas and selling all that data to the possibly more shady individuals and orgs out there in the 'verse. ;P
Besides SC I played DayZ in a RP community for quite a bit, the occasional Battlefield 1 and Company of Heroes 2. If you're interested in playing any of those with me, just shoot me a message!
I first heard about Test Squadron when I was doing some research on the best Sabre loadouts, considering the flight model in 2.6 changed quite a bit, along with the AI improvements in Vanduul and Pirate Swarm. I stumbled across a discussion on this very forum and after a quick check of the subreddit and the website in general I was convinced to join the community. (:
Not much of a Star Trek person, but I pick Picard for superior face palms.
