So... Apparently I can’t trust myself when it comes to Star Citizen. Every time I say “enough is enough” I end up with a burning sensation in my pocket. So, I hope my esteemed Test Squadron colleagues can help me be smart about my next purchase – and what I should trade in.

What I have (all LTI):
  • Aurora LN
  • Ranger TR
  • X1 Force
  • Khartu-Al
  • San’Tok.Yäi
  • Carrack
  • Polaris
I know from experience, that I’ll have a hard time playing a whole day straight, as I have a shit-ton (or at least their diapers weigh…) of small kids and big ass dogs that I can’t foresee when needs asswipery or hugs’n’whatnot – ohh, and a couple of jobs.

I’m thinking I’m pretty set on the multi-crew ships (pbly got to many really(?) with both a Carrack and a Polaris. I do like exploring, but I’m also a former soldier and I enjoy the occasional ass-kicking and bubblegum chewing.

I’ve been contemplating the Vanguard Hoplite or Prowler for a bit of gunship and drop-ship fun, but what do y’all think? Ohh, and I have a single use 20% discount and would feel poorly spending it on something too cheap… Don’t have to invest right now – we all know December will pbly be giving us access to many of the currently unavailable ships, so what should I be looking for? An honest earner? The Prowler?

Hit me with your best advice and I shall be most thankful!

As you are set for multi crew, go for something more solo, what about cutlass blue? can bounty hunt, has a small bit of cargo, has some firepower. Or go smuggling with a Mercury Star Runner?
I'll definitely check the Blue out, but my 20% is ill-spent on a cheap(ish) ship. The Mercury looks really interesting - will give it a proper check up as well! Quite liking the role it can fulfill
Being set is of course quite relative, and I believe I am mostly set in the 5+crew range.
2-3 person ships are still golden (like Prowler, Vanguard and such)

The ones I have been considering is the A2 Hercules, Prowler or Vanguard Hoplite, but I have been away from the game for a bit, so I am out of touch with what might be recomendable :-)

You could melt the Carrack, and re-buy it with the discount? And then buy a Mercury and Cutlass Blue?

Now is exactly the right time to fly before you buy so get in the 'Verse and rent some of those Expo ships and have a go in them!

As for your current lineup.... you go from single seat fighters right to a Carrot with nothing in between... That can only mean...

Freelancer MIS.

It is a civilian freighter decked out with special Milita missile launchers that make it a missile boat with some good guns too. It's checking tickets and taking names right now and from most accounts it's putting smiles on a lot of faces.

It also has a fair bit of cargo for missions and you'll be able to take your Ranger and X1 in it to go exploring. It might not be worth that 20% discount coupon, but it might well be worth it without the coupon which you can keep hold of until something really special catches your eye. 😉

Check it out in the 'Verse if you can and see for yourself, I always say fly before you buy if you can, and thanks for your commitment to the project 🙂

That is really good advice - think I'll upgrade my Aurora to one of those (to keep the LTI) and save the subscriber-discount till I am less conflicted. Thank you!

Honestly if there isn't something you are already set on with these sales, wait for the release of the Ares, its rumored to be a med/heavy fighter or something like it hence the name Ares, I would wait and see, most players buying right now have been waiting for these sales for awhile and already knew what they wanted.

Great stuff, let us know what you think of the MIS!

If your Aurora is an original 2012 pack with physical merchandise attached to it think very carefully, if you don't like what you CCU to and want to melt the pack to get the credit value back to use on something else you can't get that original game-pack back from buyback because the physical merch was a limited KickStarter offer so would be gone. Don't worry if you have CCU'd it already, I believe you do keep all the stuff from the original pack like the LTI, so that should not be gone if you have, but it's going to be a one-way trip which risks limiting your options in future if you want them - you'll only be able to CCU onwards 🙂

Another way to do it and have the LTI, is to get an LTI Pieces which is the LTI ship this sale, then CCU that to the Freelancer MIS. You still donate the same as you would have getting the MIS outright as a CCU makes up the rest of the value of the MIS without cutting out any of the value already donated form the Pieces, and you keep the original LTI from the Pisces too. 👍

Any thoughts on the bundle-deals available to members of the Chairmans Club? - was considering the "Scoundrel Pack" (Caterpillar, Mercury Star Runner, Cutlass Black, Anvil Hawk, Dragonfly Black and Tumbril Ranger CV) - would provide me with a bit more flexibility to my list. And it should be a good way to spend the 20% discount.. ;-)

Does leave out the Harbringer and MIS, but the Cutlass Black could easily be upgraded to one of those, if I melt one of my land-vehicles (pbly don't need quite as many as I'll end up having if I buy the Scoundrel Pack...

And thank you one and all for your advice and thoughts!

Sounds like a viable plan, looking at the Scoundrel pack it's loaded up with LTI goodness and having all those toys to play with will definitely be a bonus. Just a note on CCUing items in a pack - if you want to melt one of the upgraded ships to get the value back, you have to melt the whole pack so although this is an excellent plan be wary. The Cutlass is supposedly the Drake competitor to the Freelancer so you may want to have a fly in it first to see if you might prefer it.

I just read up about the Subscriber Coupon, i wasn't aware that there is a maximum discount cap so just in case, here's the details:

What's my discount?
Your subscription level determines your discount!
  • Centurion - 10%, Up to a max discount of $50.
  • Imperator Prime - 20%, Up to a max discount of $100.
Otherwise it sounds like a solid plan if you are in a position financially to make the pledge. There are some tasty ships in that pack that would happily fill out your fleet

I think that is a good way to go. I have the Scoundrel Pack and have upgrade the Dragonfly and Cutlass Black. Is a great mix of ships in my opinion :like:

From what you describe as your main interest, I suggest look long and hard at the Sentinel with the Hoplite Battlefield Upgrade Kit (BUK). The Sentinel frame does not have the hull points of the Hoplite, but it has both the stealth skin and the box around the reactor to make it stealthier. You might consider too, the Harbinger BUK, in the event you want to go team skirmish with others. Check out the EMP with the Sentinel too.

If you go stealth, I also highly recommend you put a small, low sig reactor as primary and a big, hot reactor as secondrary, and shut the secondary and shields down when you're in stealth mode. I also recommend you go all ballistic weapons so you put out a lower signature and don't need the power for energy weapons, so can get by with less total power available. Besides, the Mantis truly rocks. Check on youtube for a Tana sporting six Mantis and you'll be convinced that is a great way to go. They have about the same speed and maneuverability (save the Tana accelerates better on the Y axis, and worse on the Z axis--makes it harder to fly well), so what this guy is doing with the Tana, you can pretty much do in a Sentinel, and you can take lots more incoming besides. . .and then there is that big, fat S5 mount to consider. . .and all the big missiles.
