So I had another knee rehab appointment today, and once again I tripped and fell into Fry's on my home - this time I somehow ended up with a Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB SSD.

Downloading SC right now, with high hopes for improved performance - I did not migrate my OS though, was having issues with formatting and such, got impatient, may try it later (suspect pagefile may still be important).

Big downloads suck...but giddy like a school girl, I am waiting with antici.....................................................................................pation.

Will report back once it is all up and running again.

Nice one!

Normally when I trip and fall I end up bloody, not with mad swag.

I have a similar chip(exacts same but ... 512GB)

It is awesome, i used the cloning software that you get free and had no issues apart from requiring to activate Windows as Windows detects so many changes which is normal. EDIT: My bad, I built a whole new rig at the time i cloned so ignore this.

Hope it all goes well but I was using a SSD with memory caching(RAPID Mode) which tbh I didn't see a difference but for you my friend if you came from a HDD then enjoy your immensely improved boot times and software loading, if you came from another SSD then still, you'll see improvements.

Welcome to Star Citizen! (You'll understand soon)

Don't feel weak, a Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD isn't weak, it is common sense. It is an investment in better experience which will pay off and won't be thrown away money. Every time you have a better experience, the money you spend pays itself back. You worked for your money, let the money work for you instead of staying lazy at your bank account.

A hundred percent agree, you work to earn money so the smart thing is to buy things that work IN FAVOUR of your preferred lifestyle or at least improve it in some way. So the SSD is something that massively improves your life by decreasing load times and helping in every department that an SSD can.

Well deserved and a great purchase!

OK, so another improvement, I was really excited, 60FPS in Arena Commander, and I hit a server that started over 40 FPS at Port O but it was a bugged server so no joy there.

Loaded into a busy server 40/50 and was seeing low 20's at Prt O once off the deck, and 15-ish at Levski but then that server glitched (elevator would not call), tried to take off and ended up 24,000m BELOW the surface of Delamar, which I think is in space on the other side of Levski, but the game didn't think so, exited to menu.

Not the overall improvement I was looking for, but I guess if I ever get a good server I'll know it.

Oh well, baby steps, baby steps.

OK so Hangar is solid 30 FPS, Arena Commander was 30-60 FPS, both are better than anything previously encountered (1920x1080 Very High), and my last run into the 'Verse while disappointing in a way was still smoother than before, even after the new GPU, so I think I have been having pretty bad server luck - the empty server I hit with 40 FPS shows the possibilities once they improve the netcode/server-side performance - I am confident I have done basically everything I can do on my end save more/faster RAM or an even stronger GPU (more Mem) but it is not working hard, typically 3.5-3.7 GB Mem usage and under 50% utilization.

AC and Hangar sure load faster, and the rest seems faster but not as obviously so.

I did the same thing a while back , then I simply cut an pasted the whole CIG Folder onto the SSD , deleted the Launcher , redownloaded the launcher and pointed the installer at the CIG Folder in the SSD . Done , saves on a huge download as you only need the launcher download .

You sound a lot like me in Fry's. It's a dangerous place to be, at least for my wallet. Stuff just flys off the shelf. I get distracted. I probably need a 12 step program. The funny part is I remember when Fry's was a grocery chain I used to loved to hate, now it's the big box electronics store I hate to love.

Question,

I did NOT migrate Win10 to the SSD but I did kill the old pagefile on C:/ and set a 30GB pagefile on F:/, I have not seen an in universe bump in FPS - Hangar and AC are great, as is the lobby - I am happy with improved load times for SC but am confused why I am still 10-15 FPS.

Other specs are FX6300, 6 core, 3.5 GHz, 20GB DDR 3 RAM, GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB. I have Graphics set Cery High but have tried down to Medium with no discernable change in FPS, sometimes maybe 1 FPS - I am now running a custom User.cfg as follows:

con_Restricted = 0

r_DisplayInfo = 3
r_fullscreen = 0
r_Width = 1920
r_Height = 1080
r_FullscreenWindow = 1

r_MultiThreaded = 1
r_ChromaticAberration = 0
r_VSync = 0
;r_Sharpening = 0.2
i_Mouse_Accel = 0.0
i_Mouse_Smooth = 0.0
r_MotionBlur = 0
r_DepthOfField = 0
r_ShadowBlur = 0
g_radialBlur = 0
r_HDRBrightLevel = 0
r_HDRBloomRatio = 0
hud_bobHud = 0
r_SilhouettePOM = 0
r_GsmCache = 0
r_OpticsBloom = 0

Typical session sees 3.5-3.7GB of GPU Ram used, GPU load is less than 50%, usually 30's, temps are low 40's C. All six cores are seeing average duty of 50-70% - so in terms of what Afterburner reports, the system is not 'bogged down'. As I understand it, if you run out of GPU RAM the load moves to the CPU and it does not seem overloaded.

I have read Chris' performance post in Spectrum and I think I am in the middle hardware wise so not sure what to do/try next. But for all but glitchy empty servers (no players and nothing in the stores) I am still 10-15 FPS - before the GPU, SSD and RAM bump I was indicating 7-10.

Even at the reported FPS, the actual gameplay for me has improved substantially so I am not salty here, but I expected more improvement with the GPU, RAM and SSD bump.
