OMG...

So...

I backed in 2014, and thought my computer at the time wouldn't be up to playing the game when it launched in a couple of years time (lol.) So I upgraded to a pretty kickass rig in 2014... 4790K, 16Gb DDR3, Good GPU etc etc etc... but 10 years later and the computer just wouldn't run SC for shit, 16Gig of ram just wouldnt run the game, noone sells DDR3 anymore and couldn't really afford a complete overhaul.

Just got backpaid for a promotion from a few months ago and went to a Ryzen 5, DDR5 etc etc and I can finally play the game again.

What a crazy journey.

Congrats, I'm waiting down the machine I made in 2019 out of parts from 2014 to run out of puff before I have to start thinking about replacement... It's getting there, I just hope SC/S42 will run on Linux if it's still up to the task when they stop support of Win10...

Right, playing for a couple of weeks now. Getting used to it now.

Can someone explain what the deal with the F8 is? I kinda like the look of it, but I understand you have to receieve a backshot from CR to get one? is that about right?

It was never going to be on sale... until it was in a limited Golden Ticket hunt in the 'Verse.

There were limited platinum tickets that got the holder a free F8 but lit them up with a marker to all on the Server like the old public enemy used to in 2.4, it got very... contested...

The gold tickets had to be found in loot crates around the 'Verse, they were supposed to be a trek to find but i found one in the first box I looked in. You went to the rental terminal at a major landing zone and got a rental for a couple days and the option to buy in the store. 6mo insurance for store credit or LTI on fresh cash.

And the event ended. No more rents, claims etc. Until the IAE a few months later where people could still redeem tickets in their inventory to buy an F8 but with 10 year insurance on store credit... Cue the Salt Mines of spectrum and insurance upgrade applied to all credit F8's.

As far as I'm aware that's the last time you could grab one. I'm guessing it'll be in the IAE best-of-show pack at least....?
