Certainly looks that way, but these don't seem to be very, well, agile. Like they seem like they're fixed to the turret? What's the point of S2 guns that move at the speed of S8 turret? They'll do no damage to larger targets and they can't track smaller targets so they do no damage to anything. Nobel peace prize guns.

Long answers: These are detachable bits that hover around your ship and shoot at short-range attackers R-Type style!
Short answer: They are for shooting down torpedos.
Short sighted answer: Those are size 5 guns that only look small next to those mighty S12s.
Fanboy answer: Never judge a gun by its size!
