And I feel somewhat underwhelmed.... I feel I did it just for the LTI, F7CM and 350R... which ofc isn't worth the cost of the pack but atleast I have a ton of ships to CCU out from.. but then ..there's the next packs that have the freelancers... then afterward the pack with the connies.. so... I feel over the next year I'll just be melting all over again to upgrade further because quite frankly... I'm not at all happy with the battle pack choices (except for the 350R and F7CM).

Thoughts?

I'm a little bit puzzled: weren't you aware of the content of the battle pack before you bought it...?

Yes of course, that's not what I was trying to get at. I'm working my way to wing commander... the packs on the way to that point feel very underwhelming to me now that I have my battle pack. It's hard to explain.. kind a like buyers remorse but not quite. I mean, I'm glad to support the game and be a part of it's development through pledges. It's complicated.

I originally had no intention of putting more than my standard middle of the road backing into this game ($45). But I began developing an idea for how I wanted to play and before I knew it I had a pretty good, but rather randomly acquired fleet. I melted everything for the Battle Pack, like you did.

But first, I wrote out not only what ships I got in the Battle Pack, but how I'd transform each one into the ships I wanted to field after Beta. The only ships not CCU'd now are the 350r, SH, Aurora LN and Aurora CL - which are in my "Keepers" list.

I am exactly one ship from my final roster - the Crucible I intend to be my flagship for Rolo.

In the mean time, through giveaways and, let's face it, desire for shiny things, I've also got a few extra little ships.

Sorry, got off track.

My thoughts about the value of the Battle Pack:
1) It's a dual package with 20,000 UEC. That can be considered start up money to buy cargo and get the ball rolling.

2) all 13 ships are LTI and can be CCU'd to your final configuration without needing to jump on or track down "LTI Token" offers. This is good value if you hope to have at least 13 ships later on that are long past their LTI concept sale. In essence, I can give LTI to any ship I wish to acquire, as long as I am CCUing to the same or higher value.

3) The extras that come with the pack may be fluff, but there's a lot of it, and some may be sellable in game, for an even better jumpstart.

4) Should I end up with too many ships in the end, it is my personal feeling that ship prices in game will be astronomical (Small ships quite affordable, bigger ships progressing geometrically or even exponentially). Selling extra ships makes it viable to fully load a Cargo E, for instance, on Day One. Spending $50 for an Avenger Titan or $50 for 50,000UEC. Which do you think will be worth more in game?

So I think the Battle Pack is worth it. It's a good base to expand from. My BP cost $1,100... it's current value is just over $2,000 in ships and extras.

Wing Commander? Most of my ships are small. Do what I did with the big mommas and you'd get there soon enough.

I was never interested in the Battle Pack for just that reason. Sure it's tons of ships, but it's all Mustangs and other small. I'm glad I jumped on the mega explorers when it came up, that's the perfect combo package for me. A few big ships I love and a few I can upgrade

I don't think the old packages get good til the Connie or the one above, personally.

I agree with this. The only large package I picked up was the mega explorer package... I had most of the ships in the entire package already but gained the terrapin and 315. 315 will probably be melted to the 350 for racing.... Got the freelancer and some other amazing ships in the package and some nice value ships to melt to increase your roles beyond exploration (terrapin to super hornet for example)

Yeh packages are good value, but very inflexible. I steer clear of them. That said... I bought the explorer package but only because I actually wanted 100% of the ships in it, and the 20,000 UEC is good.

For pure flexibility you are much better off buying 20 LTI dragonflies and CCuing up to each exact ship you want.

Still however you manage to get there, just make sure you get there!

Yea except how else to get the frigates and capitol ships? Which is my end goal along with all the bells and whistles of the wing commander pack extras. I've bought back my two argo LTI packs already and I have my UEE Exploration Pack in my buy backs for when I have $495 to spend again. I'm wishing I got the mega explorer pack instead really.. because it's gonna take a while to get to the $5K or $10K packs. And like you said, getting low cost LTIs and CCU is not only a good option but also is better bang for buck as the packs have fluff value.. if looking at just the ship values, we lose money on the old packs.

The only ships not CCU'd now are the 350r, SH, Aurora LN and Aurora CL - which are in my "Keepers" list.
Why are you keeping the Aurora LN and CL? just curious... for me, Aurora's are like the universe's minivans

Edit:
If I consider a more frugile approach...
I think I may end up just doing the Fleet pack (or War Pack) and then try to get a couple of frigates and one capitol ship somehow... I DEFINITELY want the Prospector because I see myself doing lots of mining. I do that in Empyrion a lot anyway so why not :P
But I know myself.. as soon I hit anything over $7k in ship / pack pledges... my dumb ass will melt and switch to the Wing Commander pack regardless.

The two things missing from the LTI Token approach are the included packages and the limited ships, both of which I wanted.

As for the Auroras, the LN makes an effective escort. Why? It's so cheap and tough that Dem Pirates in their fancy schmancy Sabre's really need to think twice about risking a ship that costs 5 times as much to get by the Legionaire. And if the LN is destroyed, it'll be replaced very quickly. It may only be an annoyance, but it works along the same lines as that pretty ferrarri driving next to my beater. I even *look* like I'm gonna bump him and he'll hit the brakes and take a different street :p

The CL? The Clipper has the best (pitiful) cargo capacity of any Aurora. And it's ubiquitus (read "invisible in traffic"). I'm a smuggler. That's all you need to know.

Don't get me wrong, but I feel like that pack is one big waste of money.

Unless I mistook the Packages, it includes:

Aurora ES, MR, CL, LX, LN
300i, 315p, 325a, 350r
F7C, F7C-S, F7C-R, F7C-M

The only interesting ones are the Super Hornet and the 350r but you'd be able to get them from anniversary sales anyway. Everything else is just CCU fodder imo, maybe except the LX for collector purposes.

As I said before... it's 13 LTI ships you can upgrade as you wish, a dual package, 20k UEC and a bunch of flair and fluff.

By itself, without any upgrades, it's grossly redundant and limited in role diversity.
Is it a waste? *shrug*

It suited me. I'm quite happy with the Battle Pack as a base for what my fleet has become.

Wait for the armada pack (includes an idris) for $2500. Probably be available after Citizen Con or the Anniversary sale. Last year they released to to re-balance idris numbers. Now that there are 500k more backers they will probably re-release it.

I think it's too much of a starting point to ruin unless you've decided to spend far more money from the start.

At the end of the day, 1100$ in and your best Ships are things one can obtain after like a week of playing.

If you go that route, you'd more or less have to decide on going for plenty big/specialized ships:
Orion, Reclaimer, you'd literally CCU into half of what's there with the other half being what you have from the Pack... and I doubt you'd really use all those things permanently.

Yes. That is exactly what I planned and did.

(slightly out of date... 300i is now a m50 and another Archie was picked up on Shiner's stream)
