The launch was key because they re-engineered an important component that failed on previous flights and the new one operated flawlessly. The recovery was key because it tests the world’s first reusable heat shield. It appears both systems operated flawlessly.
So there is still huge tension over whether Starship will be ready for Mars insertion in time for the window which only happened for a few months every couple years. Only time will tell but I’m betting they make it.
