Maybe... his clothes did fall down like Yoda and Obiwan Kenobi's did, though...
He did not die as Yoda, and ObiWan did. He just disappeared, and the whole lights flashing across the sky is new.

In The Last Jedi, when Yoda appears to Luke and they are sitting on the ground commiserating, Yoda is not transparent like the ghosts of previous appearances. He is opaque, and he wraps on Luke's head with his walking stick which is obviously quite solid. Neither of them are surprised about Yoda's physicality. They both understand at that point something the viewer is unfamiliar with, is familiar to both of them.

Luke repented of his desire to torch the Jedi texts, and then went to go save them when Yoda torched them instead. At the end of the story, when all the survivors are on the Falcon, Flynn opens a drawer to get a blanket for Rose, and in that drawer are the Jedi texts, somehow magically transported across the galaxy.

The dice that Luke took from the Falcon and gave to Leia, are physical objects that last after he leaves, but do not last permanently. They later disappear. We are meant to wonder why they disappear, and how a physical object could have been transported across the galaxy--just like the Jedi texts, and just like Luke.

FYI, according to official SW lore, Luke is the purest and most powerful Jedi of all time. There is no way that Kennedy would have changed this. What she did was scare the shit out of millions of viewers that the Jedi Order really is going to end, and she did it so well that everyone hates her guts. But beware. Luke is not dead, and the Jedi are not done with. It's all act 2 ruse and fright, necessary to any good trilogy. What it really is, is some of the best writing to come out of Hollywood in decades.

During his depression, Luke quips to Ray, "what do you think is going to happen here? I'm going to face down the entire First Order with a laser sword?!" What we find later of course is this is exactly what he does. This kind of irony is integral to all Lucas' work in SW and in Indiana Jones, and Kennedy is continuing it on.

Luke is completely repentant when he disappears. He is no longer the jaded, cynic he was before he met Ray, and we can see this in the fact he tried to save the Jedi texts when Yoda called lightning from the sky. He did not give up as it is meant to seem. He is completely recommitted, which is why he shows up to face down the First Order.

Luke is not dead. And neither is Kennedy.

What they did not forsee was that their ruse would be so completely successful that the fans would riot over the fact they made Luke a whiner instead of the Jedi we all know he is meant to be, and that the fans would therefore punish Disney by refusing to go see Solo.

Stay tuned. Luke is not dead. I would not be surprised if we see Obiwan make a reappearance. What did he say when he gave up his life? "If you strike me down I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."

Who doesn't want to see that?

TBH, I only dislike Kennedy for pushing a specific social agenda. This is why people got fired under her, they didn't want to push her agenda, they wanted Star Wars to stay true and pure.. like Luke. Even Hamill warned us in interviews. He's expressed he's not happy with the direction they took before iirc. And.... didn't Hamill say he was done with Star Wars now?

I would LOVE to see that Luke and Yoda found a new way to exist in the force!!! .. like... Ascension in StarGate SG1 or Atlantis.

They could fix it easy and please a lot of fans.

Show the scene of him fading away, then shift to an outer view of the planet, a x-wing in the distance, closing s-foils and it jumps to hyperspace leaving the system.

He could have been projecting down to the island and using it as a relay.

As big of a Star Wars fan as I am, I think there is no better company to kill it off than Disney. To be fair though, Rogue One and Solo were good movies. I actually enjoyed Solo more than I expected. The new saga leaves much to be desired though.

I've got to agree with @DirectorGunner on this topic. Sadly, due to the direction that Kennedy has tainted the SW galaxy with her social agendas, I have NO faith in SW being saved overall. Hopefully Disney will prove me wrong for once in this.

I could see that as an option... Hence the Jedi Texts being on the Falcon being like some kind of repeater station for him to project on planet whereverthefuckitwas when the falcon got there...? He's in orbit over the island linked to the texts which were then where he needed to be...

As a kid I always thought Empire Strikes Back was the weakest of the original trio as it wasn't very satisfying. A lot goes wrong and stays gone wrong compared to the other two where moon-sized battle-stations get blown up. As a grownup I recognize it was building up to what was my favorite one as a kid and without it my favorite one would not have been as good.

They got a lotta writing to do to dig themselves out of this hole but it's not as if they don't have a lot of places to go from...

Mwahahaha. I love it.
I for one have quite enjoyed the new movies. I am most certainly excited to see what happens in the 3rd installment. So freaking excited. haha

As a huge starwars fan (seriously my my son Ben has the middle name Kenobi) I can't express how disappointed I am with the new saga films (rogue one and solo were good) and the problem is obvious to me.
When they decided to make 3 more films they made the insane choice to not write am outline for the trilogy but allow the director/writers to make them up on the go. This is why awakens and last are so different.
Rian Johnson had far to much control over story and essentially killed off all the plot points started in awakens to make his one film. This is why snoke gets killed like some punk with no background and rey is Mary sue. I was worried about this as soon as mark hamil stated that the script went against his character so much that he had to pretend to be someone else in order to get through filming.
JJ is doing the third and now has to pick up the tangled mess of the story threads he laid out in is first movie.
I'm not convinced he can save the train wreck.
As for luke, they have just comfirmed that mark is involved in the new film (along with lando) and Leia will be in via unused footage shot for the last film. Again this seems like they are just throwing everything in and hoping it sticks.
I'll watch it for sure but the hype is gone and I'm expecting to be dissapointed again .

Nothing in the new episodes (is as bad as episodes 1 to 3) at least so far. No they are great.

I 100% disagree. The new episodes refuse to take risks. They don't let their main character get hurt, there is no character development besides them getting more powerful, which is a bullshit trope, hyperspace is fucked so now every space battle literally means nothing at all because they should just send an unmanned ship into hyper space to end the threat, the main character has so much Deus Ex Machina shit happen that they are basically irrelevant and could be any character at all. Nah, the new movies suck much, much worse than episodes 1-3, at least those gave a semi-decent introduction to Anakins rise from slavery to his fall, if a bit convoluted.

Everybody freaked out about this, but only the biggest nerds knew that it was incorrect.

There is a Interdictor vessel in lore that projects a gravity well which pulls ships out of hyperspace!

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gravity_well_projector

Problem solved!

The bigger outrage was that Snoke's ship was not escorted by an Interdictor!
