I think the two things to remember is:

1) theres always a newer better ship coming out at some point we just need to be satisfied with what we have - this is hard to do. (i just U/G to starlancer so I am saying do as I say not as I do)

2) that you do not need every type and every size of ship in the game. It's tempting to get the credit card out and get buying but if you only have a connie - there'll be loads of stuff you can do with just a connie. if you only have a vanguard, there's be loads of stuff for you to do with the vanguard.

Buy what you like the look of and what really floats your boat and dont worry about all the other ships theres so many of us in test we'll have every ship ever invented for everyone to fly if they want.

I think they will have to do a gold gold pass on most everything by the end and people will regret selling ships they otherwise liked just because they didn't have the bells and whistles.

I myself think they will redo the Connie at some point and I will be holding on to my Aquila until then.

So here’s a fair analysis of the TAC, though I disagree with some of his conclusions:
View: https://youtu.be/Zy4-dQTNbgU?si=bdjFV_nhJ1a9i55N

IMHO, the TAC is really in competition with the Perseus and Hammerhead. They’ve crewed about the same. Each has its own weaknesses.

I don’t believe lack of ventral weaponry that severe a problem, unless you are committed to flying the TAC alone. It’s a Swiss Army knife ship, and paired with a Perseus and/or Hammerhead would greatly expand the capabilities of a small exploration fleet. Combine these three with a Carrack and you have a small but compelling exploration force.

Concommitenly, I’m not much a fan of sending any of these four ships out alone. TAC is a great multi-purpose ship but it does not have enough guns to face down fighters nor big enough guns to face down gunships. It’s a flying target with poor sensors that will virtually assure you are seen before you see an opponent. So yeah, it’s capabilities are best added to a small fleet rather than used solo, and this being the case you should ask whether that small fleet is more capable than a lone Polaris.

The Polaris is faster than any combination of smaller ships, harder to spot, has bigger eyes (except maybe in the case of the Carrack—we do not know yet), is more destructive and harder shelled. It’s much harder to kill.

If the TAC had 2 S9 torp tubes it would be a mini Polaris and a game changer. As is it’s just something to fortify other ships like the Perseus and Carrack. It’s a nice ship. It’s a fun ship. It would be great to play on, just so long as you’re okay getting your ass shot off.

IMHO, these ships with 5-7 crew need other ships, and once you supply them you’re better off with a Polaris. The only military service ship this size I can recommend is a Liberator stacked with 3 Eclipse and 2 Firebirds for 5 players total. This keeps the ship itself out of the fight, so kinda cheating to compare.

I was wondering about those black caps on the shoulders, they look to be in just the right place (as long as you're not turning) for a couple of Torp launchers for a tech 5 upgrade or maybe a Starlancer MIS...?

My guess is those points you mention are the launchers for the 16S3 missiles. I haven’t seen anything that says how many launchers. My personal opinion is two launchers are usually not enough. S3 missiles lack the punch to destroy a small fighter with just 2. So when you see a pair of S3 launchers like this on an HH, Redeemer, Polaris, etc., you need to keep in mind even if they hit they’re not going to eliminate any targets.

Also keep in mind with all four of these (HH, Redeemer, Polaris, TAC) the missiles do not lock until 1km out. They’re hamstrung in knife fights against attacking fighters, where S2 Rattlers could lock at half the distance and do 1/3 more damage. 2 Rattlers can sometimes eliminate a small fighter. Arrester IIIs cannot.

S3 missiles are not really tactical. They’re strategic and best fired from long range unless like with the Firebird you can loose 6 at once.

I like the ship. It’s a beautiful design. I just can’t see it operating alone. If I had to pick a ship for 7 guys doing exploration, I might pick this ship but be prepared to run from just 3 Buccaneers. If I’m gonna do that I’d rather explore with a pair of Zeus ES and have 2S3 scan. This ship ought to have S3 scan. It’s very limiting it does not. Maybe CIG will change it?

Also, someone clue me in here. What can you do with the jump seats you cannot do without them? In a ship this size marine types can just stand. Wouldn’t that jump seat space have been put to better use storing a Nursa or another Fury? When I think of drop ships I think hardened and sneaky. This is hardened but it’s 6 times the size of a Hoplite. If you were dropping into contested terrain, wouldn’t you rather a Hoplite or Valkyrie than this?

I think MedTurtle will be a perfect replacement for the C8R. I think I shall CCU from one to the other, so my Bandaid Wagon will become a little sturdier ;)
Turtles are not only sturdy but they’re magnificently stealthy. Maybe the perfect solo bunker and cave raider, especially for those that get chopped up knifing targets in the dark. Just no cargo space, which in that role matters. Need to see what this Guardian offers. If that elevator really means cargo, the Guardian may be the upgrade to the 315P.

From what I saw of the ship in the cit-con presentation there are 4 4xS3 racks which pop up from the fuselage, those caps have no known use at this point from what I can tell :like:,

I think the jump seats are for when jumping system to system. No seat might mean bad injury or death for anyone not strapped down.

Agreed! An interesting video, thanks for sharing! On whole, it appears that CIG did a nice job with the Starlancer. They extended MISC's design 'lines' nicely to this larger ship, differentiated the variants well enough to keep them interesting and cause a real choice, and created ships that seemingly will compete well with other mid-level vessels. Ships should not just be about power and looking good, but also about the meaningful choices they create for the player. I feel that CIG is adding to my choices with the Starlancer.
