I posted here last night that I would be in Discord today, and dying to get into 3.0 with everyone. Been so stoked and excited for 3.0, but my joining TESTies any time soon in the 'verse? That's not gonna happen.
3.0 is unplayable for me.
Serious sadface.
TLDR?
If your computer is new but not worth $5000.00 and is middle of the road, you're most likely gonna have a bad time in 3.0 and might want to consider staying in 2.6.3 awhile longer until 3.0 code and netcode gets some love and refining
What I post here is just how the game runs for me on 3.0 and posting this might help someone else who is considering putting time into 3.0 versus staying in 2.6.3 awhile longer. I'm going back to 2.6.3 because the game in 2.6.3 for me is very smooth, runs nice with a decent framerate, my ships fly nice and everything mostly works well for me and most of all... it's fun! I totally have fun in 2.6.3 and my frustration factor is very low. Having said that, if anyone can post anything in replies to help me or anyone else get into 3.0 without feeling the severe frustration I have experienced so far, please do! Your insights will be greatly appreciated!
FYI I build my own PC's and have the obligatory IT degree blah blah blah, and my computer is not a piece of shit and handles every other game I play like a boss, throwing amazing framerates at me, but it is also not filled with $1000 video cards and other $500+ parts. At first I considered that maybe my PC is just not strong enough... but seeing such an incredibly drastic reduction in performance from 2.6.3 to 3.0 makes me think it is not my hardware that is the issue in any way shape or form, so much as very, very quickly and poorly thrown together game engine code and netcode of 3.0 which over time can only get better, right?
So, the 3.0 issues:
- No matter what I do in 3.0, I get next to no framerate whatsoever. Constant lockups for 1-10 seconds at a time, audio locks up and restarts at random. Video lockups avg around 5 seconds or so, and it happens at random, but fairly often.
- Controls to open doors or interact with things etc are also wildly unpredictble with some strange form of mouse acceleration/orienting and I am personally finding it to be a pain in the ass to have to open this, turn that on, close that, open this, power that on... realism is only fun until it is tedious. Trying to open a door, or power your ship on imo is not fun, it's annoying and not necessary to gameplay or realism feel imo. I get that some ppl want full immersion, and I like immersion too, just not at the cost of fun. Getting in my pilot chair and having the ship power on was quick and fun in 2.6.3. (well, maybe not quick for us Origin owners lol)
I would prefer most doors just open on their own (unless its a lockable ship or home door etc of course)
- Vision, view, flashlight etc. Cranked my gamma, cranked my brightnes, everything is still dark as shit. Flashlight is almost worthless unless you are standing 2 feet away from something. I know, alpha, but wow.
- 3.0 made me hate my Cutlass Black. In 2.6.3 it's predictable, handles decent, nice cockpit view and I LOVED my Cutlass Black so much. In 3.0 when I finally did manage to get some framerate in the middle of nowhere, all I found was that my Cutlass Black is some kind of wigged the fuck out squirrel on drugs, twitchy and unpredictable and most of my pilot view is taken up by crap I don't want to or need to see. Considering a melt to Freelancer or Hull A. I realize that this is not how it will be in the final stages of the game, but wtf CiG? Why you making me hate my ship?
There is more I could post, lots more, but there is kinda no point. You all will get the basic idea
I wanted nothing more than to be in 3.0, having fun, and I knew it would not be perfect and was fully willing to accept it for what it was but I did not expect this.
Am I on glue? Is anyone else having these problems, or is everyone else running smooth like they did on 2.6.3, having fun and no frustration at all? Again, appreciate any insight and / or replies
Sad TEST member signing off and heading back to 2.6.3 to keep my Star Citizen outlook positive, see you all round the 'verse!
