I posted here last night that I would be in Discord today, and dying to get into 3.0 with everyone. Been so stoked and excited for 3.0, but my joining TESTies any time soon in the 'verse? That's not gonna happen.
3.0 is unplayable for me.
Serious sadface.

TLDR?
If your computer is new but not worth $5000.00 and is middle of the road, you're most likely gonna have a bad time in 3.0 and might want to consider staying in 2.6.3 awhile longer until 3.0 code and netcode gets some love and refining

What I post here is just how the game runs for me on 3.0 and posting this might help someone else who is considering putting time into 3.0 versus staying in 2.6.3 awhile longer. I'm going back to 2.6.3 because the game in 2.6.3 for me is very smooth, runs nice with a decent framerate, my ships fly nice and everything mostly works well for me and most of all... it's fun! I totally have fun in 2.6.3 and my frustration factor is very low. Having said that, if anyone can post anything in replies to help me or anyone else get into 3.0 without feeling the severe frustration I have experienced so far, please do! Your insights will be greatly appreciated!

FYI I build my own PC's and have the obligatory IT degree blah blah blah, and my computer is not a piece of shit and handles every other game I play like a boss, throwing amazing framerates at me, but it is also not filled with $1000 video cards and other $500+ parts. At first I considered that maybe my PC is just not strong enough... but seeing such an incredibly drastic reduction in performance from 2.6.3 to 3.0 makes me think it is not my hardware that is the issue in any way shape or form, so much as very, very quickly and poorly thrown together game engine code and netcode of 3.0 which over time can only get better, right?

So, the 3.0 issues:

- No matter what I do in 3.0, I get next to no framerate whatsoever. Constant lockups for 1-10 seconds at a time, audio locks up and restarts at random. Video lockups avg around 5 seconds or so, and it happens at random, but fairly often.

- Controls to open doors or interact with things etc are also wildly unpredictble with some strange form of mouse acceleration/orienting and I am personally finding it to be a pain in the ass to have to open this, turn that on, close that, open this, power that on... realism is only fun until it is tedious. Trying to open a door, or power your ship on imo is not fun, it's annoying and not necessary to gameplay or realism feel imo. I get that some ppl want full immersion, and I like immersion too, just not at the cost of fun. Getting in my pilot chair and having the ship power on was quick and fun in 2.6.3. (well, maybe not quick for us Origin owners lol)
I would prefer most doors just open on their own (unless its a lockable ship or home door etc of course)

- Vision, view, flashlight etc. Cranked my gamma, cranked my brightnes, everything is still dark as shit. Flashlight is almost worthless unless you are standing 2 feet away from something. I know, alpha, but wow.

- 3.0 made me hate my Cutlass Black. In 2.6.3 it's predictable, handles decent, nice cockpit view and I LOVED my Cutlass Black so much. In 3.0 when I finally did manage to get some framerate in the middle of nowhere, all I found was that my Cutlass Black is some kind of wigged the fuck out squirrel on drugs, twitchy and unpredictable and most of my pilot view is taken up by crap I don't want to or need to see. Considering a melt to Freelancer or Hull A. I realize that this is not how it will be in the final stages of the game, but wtf CiG? Why you making me hate my ship?

There is more I could post, lots more, but there is kinda no point. You all will get the basic idea

I wanted nothing more than to be in 3.0, having fun, and I knew it would not be perfect and was fully willing to accept it for what it was but I did not expect this.
Am I on glue? Is anyone else having these problems, or is everyone else running smooth like they did on 2.6.3, having fun and no frustration at all? Again, appreciate any insight and / or replies

Sad TEST member signing off and heading back to 2.6.3 to keep my Star Citizen outlook positive, see you all round the 'verse!

Last night I fought and fought and made my way from Olisar to Lagski... My Cat was amazing, until landing... FPS dropped even more, some freezes, and I some how ended upsides down hanging into the Mine shaft... with great courage and mild insanity I invoked the name of Leroy and leaped from stuck ship... I can tell you that gravity and physics are both working with all the strange shapes my body made on the pretty rocks at the bottom..

The thing thing i find with 3.0 it depends on a lot of things

1) Time of day
2) Which Server your on
3) which way the wind is blowing
4) How much you can accept it's a buggy pile of shite that's meant for testing not playing

So too look at these

Time of Day

if your lucky an I mean really lucky you can log onto a server in a country were all the plebs ( sorry i meant the other players ) are asleep , get in and enjoy the stuttering pile of Cow Feces that is 3.0 , once you manage to get out of your Cabin ( jeez them fucking doors open a close quickly ) that is & hopefully get to the point you can actually get the fuck off Olisar , your golden , ok it still stutters , but its not as bad

Which Server your on .

See Above ( Helpful ain't I )

Which way the wind is blowing

Honestly sometimes I log straight in , get out of the HAB , Board a ship and fuck off to somewhere , other times it takes 6 attempts to log in , get disconnected , verify my ( & counting ) 40GB 3.0 Install and still pray i can acutally board a ship an fuck off somewhere .

How much you can accept it's a buggy pile of shite that's meant for testing not playing

This is the crux of it all , at the end of the day signing up to the PTU is a choice we all make one way or the other . i chose to simply to see what it's like and yes it's a buggy pile of cow feces and makes me wonder if they will every actually fix the fucking thing , but it does seem for every Patch they release it is at least one step forward ( & usually two steps backwards ) but as a New Player 2.6.3 got boring very quickly , simply because of the fact you can't land on Planets , you can in 3.0..........well ok eventually

So don't give up just yet .

Yeah I played a good hour or so and managed to do one of the missions to collect trash and dump it into space.

Then went to refuel and got killed by someone, then couldn't get back in.

Played today just messing around Olisar and playing about in a pirate Cat and the only major problem I had was the 5 second freezing every so often, sometimes very often. That kinda annoyed me but hopefully it get fixed.

I've been switching back and forth between 3.0 and 2.6. I find in 3.0 that my framerate sometimes randomly goes about ~10 fps higher for a minute or 2, but usually it hovers between 5-10 fps. I find the murder-doors in 3.0 horribly amusing, tho. Nearly every door on port oli wants to chop you in half, and the rest of them just don't bother opening. It's probably haunted or something.

^All the above!

Honestly, I had my *best* experience of the whole PTU last night...played 3 hours straight, way past my bed time -- it was so good! I downloaded the newest patch, got over 20fps immediately, and over time degraded to 15, but wow...just wow! I was able to complete a delivery mission (first time!) see Levski at 15fps, and then take a load of cargo to Grim Hex!

I was so stoked to play this morning...and then, when I got in, had the "ships spawned by no doors" problem which I thought got solved in that last Bugsmashers? And fps wasn't that good...so I took the time to play just a little and then fill out some reports for the issue council (after searching to see what had been reported before).

My rig is not a $5k rig...most of the time, by fps have been between 5-9...but last night, I just got lucky. I hope that they keep working on it and release a better patch soon, the vision of the game is *so* awesome.

(BTW, my rig is a 7 year old workstation with a 1060 gpu).

I was fully prepared for that alpha, early access feel and implementation. I knew it would not be clean, smooth or without problems and wasn't being released for a "fun" experience, but I hoped it would be playable enough to experience the 'verse in a similar way to 2.6.3 and play through enough content to be able to contribute feedback and submit bugs. For some, this is the case and they are able to. I am still not one of them at this point, but thank you all for the suggestions, the server thing got me about 1 more frame per second once.

After considerable research, I am not alone in all this by a long shot. My machine even though windows 10, 16gb ram, SSD, she just doesn't play well with current 3.0 test build. So many pissed off people posting on reddit etc about all this and they are not holding back their opinions one bit. Going to be a lot of salt in the 'verse I think...

Silver lining in all this for me? Gives me more time to throw some $ aside for better hardware for when things are cleaned up and better updates happen. Also, hopefully I can learn to love my Cutlass Black again too

Gotta stay positive, right?
Patience, hope, faith... and beer.

Today I actually managed to get my Yellowjacket in the Cutlass... kind of..., die once in the process, get a crime stat while parking and not being able to take off with the Cutlass but still it was fun :beers:

This is an achievement. So far the ships spawn and then disappear when left alone or crash requiring an insurance claim and a wait.

You must park your dragonfly somewhere in space, get of it, hope that it won't start to drift or turn, pray that you can sit on it again and mind the gravity when you hover above a landing pad. When "parked" in space, you can get your transport ship and try to park inside.
Next time I will try to park the transporter in space. That way landing pad gravity will be no problem. Also bumping into Olisar or landing on an not assigned landing pad, resulting in a crime stat, will not be an issue.
