So since last year, when i hit an economic rock bottom, i now have some cash and luck again.

I dreamed of the starfarer, because i'm a carebear at heart.
I can see the starfarer be a tough ship. It can not only harvest fuel, and transport it, it can also transport alot of cargo.
I can live inside it, land on planets, transport dragonfly's and probably buggys and rovers in it, allowing me to really explore planets and space.

for when the starfarer was down, and i'm waiting for it to be reimbursed, i wanted to get a cutlass red, so i can not only be an ambulance, but also carry cargo while waiting for my starfarer to be returned or just do something a bit different and less costly.

This was as far as my ambition extended. I would be set for the game and could buy the rest ingame.

But, i lucked out and also won a 2 pack dragonfly with lti. (have lti on the two other ships too). So i can now put them into the starfarer cargo hold, and ensure that i have a near unlimited supply of these. Though i have been debating wether to upgrade one of them to another ship. But i just can't decide if i should keep the black or the yellow one. The black for being black, the yellow looks good and is rarer.

And tonight i won another dragonfly. So i have been really lucky.

I now own
1 dragonfly black lti
1 dragonfly yellow lti
1 dragonfly (unknown colour yet) with 4 year insurance
1 cutlass red lti
1 starfarer gemini lti

i have been thinking of saving up for a rover, but there seems to never be a sale on it.. so no idea if it will be available ever.

I know alot of you will say i need to get an aurora, but besides the aurora and more auroras... what would you suggest?

I have the CCU options for a cargo argo, an M50 and a Reliant kore. But not really convinced any of them are for me

would love something that could give me another type of gameplay.... not really interested in fighters or general dogfighting. But interested in the rest of the pve professions.

i don't mind putting a bit more into it over time, but i'm thinking it should definitely be at most the 200 dollar limit value... preferably less.

TL;DR First universe problems. Have my dream ships, won 3 dragonfly's. Need new goal for pve.

That is black, the yellow only was on sale during concept. (please correct me if i'm wrong)

No fighter, you already have a big transport and rescue. I would narrow down your choices: Terrapin, 315P, Freelancer DUR, Reliant SEN or a Prospector.

problem is i don't have the terrapin or prospecter or even reliant sen option. And not sure freelancer is enough distance from the cutlass and starfarer. but i do like the thought of the prospector for mining and reliant sen for research and scanning... (i find the terrapin too overpriced)

was it the 315p that was an explorer too?

good ideas for sure... i wonder if they will return on sale in a few months...

I'm not sure what kind of play you are most interested in. If it is solo hauling with the Starfarer I would consider leaving some cash back to purchase whatever works best as escort, or you will spend all your time supplying ships and fuel to others. So for instance, if we find you need a refueling probe to fuel off the Starfarer, you might invest in half dozen Reliant Tanas to keep it safe. Even if you have NPC pilots flying them, no one knows that but you. A handful of gunboat escorts could easily persuade the villainous sorts to go plague someone else and leave you alone.

IMHO, the best gameplay is going to be with good, dedicated small groups. Just because you have money doesn't mean you should spend it. Almost everyone in the game will need crews, and money not spent on ships is available for NPCs and equipment. Montoya often makes an excellent point that he does not recommend anyone buy anything yet, and his argument makes very good sense. Unless you know you want a specific ship and are buying it early for LTI, it can always wait.

ahhh hadn't thought about getting a ship to let npc's fly to cover me....

yeah i would prefer to not spend any more money, but i would not mind spending a tiny bit more, to make the most of my winnings for diversity...

i'm into pve, beeing self sufficient. Being able to craft by farming the most stuff on my own. So mining and data gathering are some of the things that would be perfect... but yeah you are stating something that could be really good complement for my main gameplay on the starfarer... a security ship....

- 315P is exploration, always available
- I have a 325A to SEN CCU, €5,51, probable $5 without VAT
- I also have an Tracker to Prospector CCU, $0
Probably a lot of people have a few CCUs in buyback, otherwise you also can wait until the next sales.

A Prospector cost $140, stays under $200
A 315P and a SEN cost $65 + $75, also $140 together

Get a ship that you can operate solo and make some money in. Then get one fighter you're comfortable in and enjoy. You don't need to be a superstar in it, just know how to use it if it ever comes up.
Get a prospector.

Melt the 4 Year DF.
Use the credits to upgrade the Black LTI DF to a prospector.
35 credits + 35 DF value = 70
140 prospector price - 70 = 70 left to spend to get the Prospector.
That's not half bad.
That'll leave you with the Beerfarer, Cutty Red, a Prospector and a DF. That's a gorgeous fleet.
After the rework, that Cutty will be a beast with 6 x s3 weapons.

Other option is to do the same thing, but instead of a Prospector, get a Herald.
Only 15 spent.

Food for thought.

Great advice all of you... thanks for opening my eyes to the options out there... i think prospector is the best supplement for now, as we know what kind of impact mining will have for sure on the game...

though i would love that we knew more about what scanners and info runners would net in the grand scheme of things... but yeah, a single seater miner or scanner is what i will go for...

now to hope they drop for sale again in the near future... (wish they kept more ships in with specialty roles)

I have a question for you all, as I've been wondering if I should add more ships to my fleet. Part of me really wants to get hold of the UEE exploration pack to complete my fleet, and / or possibly an Orion because I love the idea of mining. However, I want something to work towards as well. I have no idea if I'll even have any use for my Reclaimer and Retaliator as much as I think I will because I don't know how costly or feasible NPC's will be for multicrew. Also, outfitting the Reclaimer, Orion and Carrack with drones and fuel, and all the extras they will possibly need... what if these ships need to be sustained by an org level treasury to begin with? You think it will be like owning a capital ship in EVE without having any hardpoints or modules fitted? I know we will have other TESTies willing to crew at some point, but do you think it would be wise to hold off on purchasing them and waiting until the game launches? I'm worried If I buy all the ships I want, I'll either find out I can't use them as much as I had previously thought or that I will be losing out on the reward of obtaining the ships in game. Thoughts?

(I just had surgery on my hand so I'm a little loopy from the meds. I apologize if this doesn't sound coherent.)

I've felt the same way for a long time. I've tried to downside as much as possible, as I want to actually use my fleet, as opposed to having it gather dust. After all, you can only fly one at a time.

My only large ships are the Carrack and the Caterpillar. I have a feeling that the Carrack will take a significant amount of capital to run, which is why I've tried to ensure the rest of my fleet is soloable. I'm assuming I'll need to make money in game before I'm capable of running the Carrack.

I would recommend buying a couple smaller ships that you'll be able to make capital with early in game, and maybe one large one that you really want. Leave the rest as goals to obtain in game.

A Prospector is a solid choice for an early in-game earner. It really depends on what your want to do though.

I hope this helps.

like you i am thinking about what to leave to work for ingame... the answer for me is, all the other big ships. Like the Endeavour, the orion, the reclaimer and hull series... and a few of the other specialized ships for different roles..

all the ships i buy for cash, will be ships that i can solo pilot for most stuff and not need a crew or high maintenance.

so i would say, get small specialized ships, instead of buying all the big ones.
that way you have variety when you start out, and you have things to work for.

CIG will carefully choose prices for NPCs that are whatever the market will bare, and probably allow us to have as many as we like. If I had to guess now, something like $2/month for a base level NPC, and $7 for a high quality one, would not be unreasonable. Eventually CIG must charge whatever they can, and many players have no problem with plunking down $20-50/month. So the first thing to ask is, are you one of those players? Second thing to ask is, do you enjoy hanging with groups who man each others ships, for players will always be better choices than NPCs.
