well after the update all the people I recruited for my base are starting over at mission 1, and some of them wont even give me a mission to do towards base building. I feel like I'm lost in limbo in nms like maybe I should start a new game but then I would have to all that work again. I am either totally missing something about nms or the devs really messed up!

In all honestly you should probably just start a new save of the game I would think. Technically you could still continue playing your old save with 1.3 but you may miss out on story and stuff..

If you do quests for that first base npc you get, he will teach you how to make Voltaic Cells. You then use those to make big crates to store your stuff in at your base.

I bought the game back at release, played for a month then quit like everyone else. I just started playing the new update and I'm having a fun time. There is actual content now so I wiped my old save and started new.

I think I enjoy the update because, sadly, I expect so little from the game. Still some tech issues with the game and the "multuplayer" is super weak, but they said its just getting the tech there and will be expanded in future updates.

However, the scientist says to get cave marrow (highlighted green) and I have mined a TON of morrow bulbs (from caves)... and he won't give me the damn print. Probable bug or another type of marrow?

For me the guy I had to turn the quest in to was the Gek. The construction or builder or whatever he was called, not the science guy. Its taking a few times talking to the npc tho to get it to progress.

I refuse to take any action that could possibly condone or forgive what happened when the game released. To say that I was burned is an understatement. It's not about the $60. It's about the blatant lies that have become standard in the current video game industry.
What was so intolerable about it, and why did no one sue?

I have ran into a bug were I can't get any of my specialists on my base to do anything but tell me to leave them alone. I'm on the new artimies mission and I have to have a scientist on my base to build something. Since I can't talk to any of the guys on my base I can't continue. I have relocated my base to different systems, different planets, etc. Rebuilt it 10 times. None of the specialist will even talk to me except to ask me to leave them alone. I supported NMS until now. I thought with a year more and coming out with a new patch that looks promising it would be a decent game. But I have finally given in and am declaring NMS a bust! It is a an alpha game still!

I figured out the blueprint issuing bug.. it's not a bug but rather Hello Game's dumb ass design flaw in explaining how the mission system/quests work. You have to press P or ESC and go to log tab, and in the bottom left hand panel there's all your mission options.. you can only do ONE mission at a time for speaking with NPCs to proceed.. so whatever mission you need to trigger the NPCs to let you continue it.. you have to have that mission selected in your log tab.. bottom left hand panel. FML it's sooo stupid to assume that I wouldn't be stupid enough to miss that. The steam forums are peppered with tons of these type of threads of NPCs not giving next mission step.. when all it takes is this stupid menu selection in Log.. like... who the fuck would think this? Everyone will assume you can do multiple missions at once. That's like... every game there is almost lol.

There was an investigation for False Advertising.
They were cleared. Still, you can't say what they did was not shady as fuck.

The false advertisement claims were investigated by UK's ASA. They investigated 10 separate claims and failed to uphold a single one of them. The fact that some of those claims were very black and white makes me doubt the legitimacy of this "investigation". They literally said certain features would be in the game and admitted days after release that those features weren't actually in the game. Just take a look around the modern judicial and investigatory systems. Saying that the ASA cleared them doesn't, by any means, clear them of wrong doing.

What was so intolerable? I don't want to regurgitate the list of reasons why the NMS release was completely unacceptable. That list has been compiled over and over across the internet. They have also been vetted, proven, and exact quotes clipped and placed side by side so there is no doubt that features were promised but not delivered.

The bottom line is, there is a certain degree of embellishment that is involved with every single sales pitch. I understand that. What NMS did though, went much further than that. It wasn't "in the spirit of", "essentially", or "interpreted" to be anything. They said things were in the game for the purpose of selling the game even though those things were not actually in the game. Simply because they got away with scamming their customers does not mean that it wasn't a scam.

Like I said, it's not about the $60. I could care less. What I care about is the "free pass" the video game industry gets when they make promises. I will never be ok with that. Volkswagen makes false claims about their diesel and they have to pay out 4.3 billion. Hello games makes tons of false claims about their game and the decision is "it was essentially the same".

This can't just be passed on by. How can you not be worried about the game developers that are sitting in their board rooms right now saying "Hello Games lied and got away with it. So why should we tell the truth?" You don't think they've talked about it at EA yet, or any number of developers that have proven they are shady? If we as the consumers don't stand our ground, they will keep pushing until we do. How bad do you want it to get before we stop it?

@Bruttle, In my opinion it's because this video game industry isn't heavily regulated like automobile industry. I think a close comparison would be board game industry from the 70s to 90s. And even that doesn't really fit. Playing video games generally doesn't put anyone else at risk like a bad vehicle or bad food does. Regulation wouldn't be as vigilant because the risk to the public is less. However, as a consumer product, the problem right now I think is precedence and the "idea" baby boomers (age range of most judges) have about video games. I'm not excusing asshat game developer CEO's like that guy from Hello Games, I'm just saying until enough of us start fucking sueing these assholes, as well as asking our legislative bodies to make new regulatory rules, this isn't going to change. So.. solution... LEGISLATION. Sueing is only the first step... call your law making representatives.. get bills championed.. make shit happen to protect us, the consumers.

It's not just the gaming industry. This kind of strategy for bringing wares to market unfinished actually started with Microsoft Windows. There is an entire management strategy built on Gates model, which is to bring stuff to market and fix it afterward. Much of what is written about "lean" strategies, and "iterative" processes is merely to justify bringing stuff to market that is broken and fix it after you have been paid. In stark contrast to this is Apple, who never intentionally releases anything anyone could possibly have an issue with. They work very hard to work out every bug beforehand and people pay premium prices to have the resulting performance, which is basically a machine that ALWAYS works, be it a desktop, laptop, tablet, phone or watch. If you hate stuff sold to you that doesn't do what it is supposed to, you should be very happy with any Apple product. They always take longer to get to market, and they cost more, but they always work the way they are supposed to.

I have had this iMac for 9 years now, and I use it about 60 hours/week for work; and it has never locked up nor failed in all that time. Truly amazing machine.
