Harry, when the Dream Air comes out (supposed to be ) please do pop in and keep us appraised of your adventure. I presume you’re using a gaming laptop, which everyone warns against. I love seeing people vanquish expectations.
What do you plan for controllers? Do you both fly and fight FPS and do you use the same controls for both?
I’m planning to downsize my home to something tiny. I haven’t figured out yet but if what you use works, I have no presumptions against the same. I have been thinking VR is key to avoiding the space of a big screen, but that a small screen would be wise to use the computer or other things and for others to watch if they like. Seems a gaming laptop might work given it is sufficiently powerful, and there are some laptops that totally scream.
Do you plan to use a desk or a chair?
From what I am reading, the MSI Katana 15 HX cannot only power the Dream Air SE (with the lower graphics requirements), but can actually power the standard Dream Air. Since both Pimax and the Katana are sold at K-Mart, I’m wondering if I can get them to connect up and DL Star Citizen. I guess we’ll see in April.

I use a desk in a very small stateroom on a boat offshore, so hence laptop gaming in a travel friendly package is a requirement. Myself, I haven't had issues with laptop gaming as long as a sufficient amount of my children's inheritance is thrown at the problem. My current setup is:
-MSI Raider 18 , Intel Ultra 9 285HX, Nvidia RTX 5080 laptop GPU, 64 GB RAM.
-FlyDigi BS2 Pro cooling pad
-VKB Gladiator NXT dual stick and Z-stick on the left.
-JBL headset (that doesn't get used for Star Citizen or DCS
-20 key macro pad, mouse, earbuds and a few other tiny things
-Starlink Mini
- Meta Quest3 and tether (no case, I use a soft bag that a previous headset came in)
This all fits in one Pelican 1505 (Laptop, cooler, Starlink), and one Pelican Air 1535 for all the controllers and other stuff, including a spare Aorus 17H BXF laptop with an I9 processor and 4080 GPU. Both together are fine to carry on any jet service and most regionals.
The Aorus laptop was my first go at this kit, and it all fit controllers and all into the single 1535 case (minus the cooling pad and Starlink) Setup from opening the case to online is about five minutes, and about a minute more for pack-up. The Gladiators have to be separated from the bases in order to fit, a problem I'm solving here for Christmas with a set of VKB Gunfighters, and try to shoehorn in a throttle for DCS, because its a pain to use the same left hand stick for both.
For gameplay, I hit all the game loops. PvE mostly, PvP when it finds me. Bunkers quite a bit, mining, salvaging, lots of bounty missions. Flight sticks for flight and the macro pad for FPS if room is available on whatever hotel, airport lounge, or bar I'm sitting in at the time. I have no performance issues that come from using a laptop, though I haven't had a gaming desktop in at least a decade. I heard the same issues, and hesitations for laptop gaming as well, and touched into a kit like this nervously, especially as Starlink service in the Arctic was pretty new, untested, and expensive a few years ago. Now, I have no desire for a desktop, especially as VR comes more widely supported. Just don't need that big thing. The single biggest recommendation for laptop gaming is the cooling pad. It's a must. The Aorus got pretty hot, and pulled a thermal shutdown twice and dust was a constant problem. The FlyDigi is very quiet, pushes tons of air, and has a filter port that's easy to clean every couple of days. I also go as far as desiccant packs in the watertight cases as an extra measure to avoid moisture, and I've had no problems there even in the high salty moisture air content I'm in.
Hope this helps!
