Was looking at the Polaris and luckily am saving funds for the next few months of Holidays and birthdays as it will be the first real Thanksgiving and Christmas together with my wife and kids for two years with no travel or deployment...

Having said that... for the people who do not have the same obligations, let me help you spend some money. Yes the Polaris does not come with any package.. but an aurora does. The Polaris would make a great shell to launch your aurora from at highspeeds... pull that amazing piece of machinery, the Aurora, out of the "bullet shield, the Polaris, and crash that baby into the sun!

Or... imagine the blockades you can run with the Polaris. If an avenger could land inside that hangar it would make a great smuggling or quick get away for a group of upstanding citizens....

A lot of potential... Will love to fly escort for some of you new Polaris Captains.

I don't think I'll buy this one. I already own the carrack that only cost $350. the carrack is 230meters long and the Polaris is 300meters so not much of a size difference. Sure one is more exploration and the other is more combat as well as some other small differences but for me it's not worth an extra $400. I will just have to use the carrack to earn enough in game cash to get the Polaris.

lol^^ yeah they got the stats wrong on the Polaris, which is rather impressive considering they got the 155m everywhere else. Maybe it's part of their "statpages must be flawed" motto.

btw. what anime is your avatar from? :P

If he can afford that, he'll most likely have a Starfarer or so to keep it fueled...^^
Plus fuel for the starfarer, and crew for each, munitions, hardware for the stripped jav, the list goes on and on, really. Just as a reference, the minimum crew (a body in every station and nobody roaming the halls ro manning ships, etc) is just one shy of the polaris max.

Somehow I feel like guessing a Harem Anime from a Picture is somewhat worrysome... then again, one could say it's a skill. xD

It's (besides money) the reason why I went for the Banu Merchantman. I think it's more or less the biggest durable (the Hulls don't really have anything in Weapons worth manning but IMO they look too fragile) Ship that can be used with a relatively small crew while being efficient in it's role.

So I actually went for the biggest Ship I want to grind up the smaller ones for UEC... and I'm the sort of person which has 100+ Cars in the Garage in Racing games.

This is a very pleasant surprise. 5 big anti-fighter guns, enough to take on anything smaller than an Idris. Enough S5 torpedoes to take on pair of Vanduul Void Bombers from outside the range of their spinal mounts. This ship looks like it can stop Vanduul raiding parties. Looks like enough speed and maneuverability to dodge incoming main gun fire.

It remains to be seen if she really can dodge the big guns, has enough speed and shield to be useful. I'm very surprised she has a landing bay, and that does open up all manner of interesting options. No word on her scan abilities, etc. Not enough detail to tell whether she will be good at the host of tasks she was designed for but I guess that has been true of every ship at this stage in her offering.

If I had to decide now I would certainly buy one. I can think of no single ship that will be more fun to live and play on. As is, I think The Outsiders are holding several for me. 4 Hoplites and 2 Sentinels to take one down, and just the torpedoes are worth a fortune.

The S5 torpedoes certainly beg the question concerning what is with the specialized missiles for draining shields, and the other specialized missiles as well. 4 tubes makes for all manner of interesting combinations. If she can scan and lock targets for her torpedoes at the extreme ranges such weapons are capable of, this is a VERY interesting capability. I would look to put something with stealth and scan aboard to extend her eyes on ability as her carry along--maybe a use for the Terrapin.

I like! but need to know how she handles. Can she dodge big weapons fire at 20km? How fast do her shields regenerate?

How would anyone know this?
The only way to know if a ship can dodge incoming fire is pilot the ship in combat, but for smaller ships one can look at the number and size thrusters and the mass, and make decent predictions. We can guess for example, that the Bucky will outhandle the Hornet, Sabre and yes, even the Gladius and Mustang! The Bucky was designed to be the pilots' favorite ride, able to out-fly anything, but flying hot and easy to target. Buckies will be impossible to hide so forget stealth, and they can't take much a hit.

To date, there are no cap ships designed to dodge weapons fire, but this is the first ship that might. Especially against Vanduul who generally have low weapons' speeds, and against larger weapons which generally have lower speeds, and at the greater ranges one expects cap ships to fight at, this boat might be able to dodge the spinal mounts found on the larger ships. Only time will tell.

The thing to bear in mind when thinking of this engaging a Vanduul Void Bomber is that S5 missiles have a range of 20-50km. The VB spinal mounts are something like 8-9km range, so these S5's are quite capable when they have a large, sluggish target. If one has a small, stealth ship "painting" the target on scan so the Polaris can see it at great range, this ship's missiles come into their biggest advantage, since missile ranges are generally far greater than their tracking ranges.

If Vanduul or UEE main weapons hit this ship at any range, the Corvette is done for; but 8km is a LONG time for weapons fire to actually land, something on the order of 5 seconds; so a modestly fast ship can get out of the way if she's flying defensive. Also note, the faster ship normally controls the range between two engaging craft. This boat looks like it will choose the combat ranges in any engagement it joins, save for with fighters.

So think of the Polaris carrying a Warlock, Tana or Terrapin with extra scan gear and void armor. With shields down the little boat sits quietly guiding in the big missiles, and when attacked it nukes its opponents with an EMP.

This looks like exciting gameplay to me.

I feel like "dodge" is a strong word to be using here. I don't think anyone who's piloting a polaris is going to be able to weave through fire from enemies if they manage to get caught out in the other ship's gunsights. What we definitely might see though, is a ship that can maneuver out of the primary firing arcs of a larger ship to avoid getting tagged with a rail round, for example. True dodging is a fighter's game.
